ideas about a new project

I am thinking about installing an LS3 into my C-5, has anyone done this and if so how much trouble is this project for an old backyard mechanic

The block is the same. Will just drop right in...I'd assume you'd just have to get the car retuned or change out the computer. Not sure if any of the sensors changed, but I doubt it. I'm sure someone will post with more details for you. Good luck on your project.

Junk, Greg (Antivenom), Tracy (RevXtreme) or one of the other top notch wrenches here might be the ones to ask:thumbsup:

Sound like a nice project:thumbsup:

Yep just rip the LS3 and my heart out just all at once.

Silverback ,I realize you have your reasons .And I know that you know that C6's are dirt cheap right now.Just my humble thought.

Cam sensor is in a different location so an adaptor harness extension from Caspers or Current will take care of it. Relucter is different tooth but can be worked around. Rest is exact drop-in & bolt-on swap. But I have to ask.....why? Pretty expensive when for less $ heads/cam on your current motor will give more power (unless you build the LS3)....

thanks for all replys, this is just something that I am kicking around for
now, and yes I have check out the 09 prices, but for now even those are out of my reach, being a city employee and having some cuts makes the new one but a dream and besides the 01 is payed off. I am considering
a rebuild for she has about 65000 miles on her.

Don't give your 65,000 mile engine up just yet, drive it for another 65,000 miles. Then work on the egine.

We have pulled them down with well over 200k miles & still have visable cross-hatch in the bores.

If you run good syn oil & maintain it, that motor should not need a rebuild until 200-300k miles. 65k is just broke in nicely.

Remember, these aren't our fathers, or grandfathers motors of yester-year.

Damn..... I wish I hadn't told Connie that I don't see any reason to upgrading my engine to a 427 until my current one breaks........ :banghead:

65,000 miles...she's barely broken in. My 96 vette has 105,000+ and my 89 Chevy Truck with a TBI 305 has 205,000+. Neither burn a lick of oil...tranny is going out in the truck though but I figure that's a pretty damn good lifespan for a stock transmission (well, shift kit added at 60,000).

ADD one tube of valve grinding compound and a quart of dawn dish washing liquid mixed with 3 quarts of water/anti freeze mix instead of oil into the engines crank case at the next oil change......problem solved in less than 10 miles :rofl1:

btw heres my idea of a great little project......IF I win the lotto!
