Road Trip!
$5-$6 per gallon for gas by summers end...That is ridiculous. If something is not done soon we will be in a full blown, forget recession, we will be in a depression like nothing that has been experienced before.

I hope McCain and/or Obama have some good ideas otherwise we are going to have something big to worry about...

Maybe we should do like in China, round up all the oil executives and hang them all...

Find out how many of our representatives in Washington D.C. have stock on the oil companies and then perhaps you will understand why nothing will be done about it. Can you say "conflict of interest"?

This is all due to OPEC and the good old Mr Chavez said that he will not be happy until the barrel of oil be at $200.00 .There is nothing our politicians can do unless they sale our supplies here instead of saving it and it they do that they need to ration the sales per customer so we dont run out. It is a very complicated matter.:banghead::banghead:

we need to tell the tree huggers and enviromentalist to shove it, and drill for our own resources. Chinas doing it right now off the coast of Cuba. You think they have as much interest in being safe as us Americans would? No.

Not to slam the environmentalist, but the point is well made. We need to start tapping our own resources, shutting off supplies of food aid and other necessities that we supply to third world countries and let them fend for themselves.

Once they no longer have us by the proverbial balls, they can use the oil as lubricant, to shove the barrels up thier :2232censored:

You do know that China already owns us, literally, don't you? The trade deficit is such that if they called all the debts due RIGHT NOW, the USA would be bankrupt. Not to mention that if China cut off imports to us of EVERYTHING, we could kiss our economy goodbye.

If we are engaged in an economic war, we have already lost.

Sorry guys, but the rest of the world already has us by the short hairs, and that cannot be turned around overnight.

we are slaves overseas period. And ethanol, hahaha it takes $1.25 to make a $1.00 worth of gas.

Don't mean to sound crass (sp?) but regardless of all that, it's time to stop! It's not going to get any better letting it continue.

So what if China calls in it's markers? What are they going to do if we refuse to pay? We do the same thing other countries have done, we NATIONALIZE thier holdings in the US;)

And if they cut off thier imports, what is it that we can't make right here in the US?

Of course, the bigger issue is would our own unions and such hold us hostage for the $$ or would they be willing to get on board and make it work?

We can grow our own crops and raise our own beef. Stop building condos and crap and start PAYING the farmers and corporate farms, to do what they do best...FARM!

Stop exporting all the raw material overseas and keep it here. We once had massive steel plants. But "we" allowed the cheap assed oveseas market to take over production. Of course once again, the labor unions influenced that decision by inflating labor rates to a point where it was no longer economical to produce it here:(

Same thing with the auto industry and other plants. It's a viscious cycle, but one that "could" be reigned in if we really tried (or wanted to) But...it would take everyone's help. We'd have to get past the greed and "me" isuse and start worrying about "we" for awhile.

I don't buy the we can't support ourselves theory at all:NoNo:

Now, if the Chinese (or anyone else for that matter) want to get pissy about
our refusal to pay them....well...that's why we have an open door policy:rofl1:

Again, I don't mean to sound like a cheapskate, or one who believes in backing down off a debt (never have in my life!), but we have to stop the craziness somewhere. Now would be a great time to start!

:exactly: and soon you will have to pay $ 20.00 for a can of corn if you can find it .:banghead::banghead:

I agree and just like the fuel "crises", all it does is force the industries that require the use of fuel, or anyone that need to eat:lmao:to raise thier prices to be able to make enough $$ to afford that can of corn.

In turn, the person that uses those services is required to raise thier income level to afford the services and on and on ad nauseum.

Again, we HAVE to get back to basics! Make the cuts from the top down.

It can be done, but we have to want to do it.

I think isolationism must have been a good thing and I'm ready to see it come back . working in the auto industry I've been waiting for G.M. to grow some balls and bust the unions to survive. Sam Walton had it right and his kids :2232censored:ed it up to help COMUNIST CHINA grow. over

Idk couple more natural disasters overseas, and those countries will be beckoning for outside help.

The following things are a virtual certainty:

1. Continuation of the Iraq war and resulting middle east instability.

2. An Obama presidency along w/ a Democratic Congress.

3. $200 per barrell crude oil

Get ready friends, it is really going to hit the fan!!:nonod:

Although I'm a registered Democrat, I vote pretty much non-partisan.

That said, I don't care which party is in the white house as long as they take thier head out of thier arses (and keep the other one out of the intern!) and do something to effect POSITIVE change!

The republicans havn't done anything to impress me and the last democrat didn't either.

I'd rather have Jesse Ventura if I had a choice.

I hate to think it but LS2PWR may have a valid point. Let things go to hell in a hand basket a few times and they'll find themselves depending on someone....then is when we strike our best deals....you can bet enemy will be watching!

And if they cut off thier imports, what is it that we can't make right here in the US?

Take a look around in the nearest Walmart. Try to find ANYTHING made in the USA any longer. Businesses, heck entire INDUSTRIES, have gone away because they couldn't compete with imported products. So when they went out of business, where did the tooling go to? And guess there the machinery to MAKE that tooling comes from as well?

And in another generation, the expertise needed to run those machines and the know how to make those products will be completely lost in this country. How many have already been forced into retirement when their jobs, company, and entire industry just went away?

Yes, maybe it could still be turned around now, but it would be a very bitter pill to have to swallow, and there would be powerful financial forces fighting it tooth and nail as well. Yes, there are Americans who would sell their country for the profits they make off of those Chinese imports. And they would not sit idly by while they watched us trying to put them out of business.

Seems like we are in for a rough ride. The prices of necessities (food, utilities, etc.) will go up substantially. Chances are our paychecks will not go up accordingly. Lower property valuations for real estate will cause a decrease in government revenues causing budget "shortfalls". Bottom line: higher tax rates. Folks will seriously curtail discretionary spending because a larger portion of their income will have to go to out and out survival. Sales of big ticket items (autos, homes, etc.) will flounder. Service industries (particularly those serving the tourist industry) will likely suffer because fewer people will be able to afford to vacation in FL....

DAAAAMMMNNN! Anybody got any good news??:nonod:

Seems to me that traffic has been VERY light lately when I went out to run errands. People will still drive to and from work, but I believe discretionary driving trips are few and far between. Yes, the tourist industry is going to take a BIG hit because of the cost of travel. They will certainly try to compensate by lowering the price of rooms at motels, which will be a stopgap measure to keep from having to go out of business.

Wonder how many people who had plans of cashing out at retirement and buying a motor home to just drive around the country have seen that dream collapse?

Heck, just yesterday Connie was asking me if I wanted to trade her car in to get a 2009 Z06. I told her "not while the economy is like it is". And I'm sure a lot of other people are saying and thinking the same exact thing. I'm just not willing to take on any new debts for the duration.

Ya know Rich, I'd love to see such a list in print.
