That is the coolest. I will be getting a C7 in a year or two and am thinking about the Museum Delivery option. Was it worth the $? Everyone who I've asked loved the experience. Can you elaborate on your delivery experience?
I think it was worth the money, others might disagree. First, our car happened to be in the first production run of verts. We met some people on line that our cars went through the production process together. So, when they were all built on the same day, we tried to get them delivered at the museum on the same day. Not an easy trick to accomplish. Both Lori and Shane, who handle the scheduling were great and helped us pull it off. Having your car staged on Corvette Blvd inside the museum is neat. You also are assigned a museum tech that handles the delivery. He also is your personal tour guide at the plant for your VIP tour. Very nice to have your own tour guide because if you have questions they will take the time to address them and you are not holding anyone else up. Once back at the museum, your tech goes over everything and I mean everything. And you take as much time as you think you need. They do not rush you.
I also chose to have them install an xPel Ultimate clear bra on the car. This is my first venture with a clear bra. They have expert installers, that are not employed by the museum, that come and install it on site. I only had the front bumper fascia installed and the film goes right up to were the fascia butts to the hood and front fenders. You cannot see it. I also found out that they did my mirrors and the door handle area at the cost of the bumper. Great job. We'll see how it works out.
But, the biggest reason to consider taking a museum delivery is that the museum mechanics are specifically trained to prep the C7. They are not just any tech at your local dealer. Any issues that may have come up have been communicated from GM to the museum. But most importantly, if there is an issue that cannot be resolved, the plant will send an engineer over to evaluate the issue at the museum. If there is a poor fitting or defective part, they will replace it on the spot, or take the car back over to the plant, fix the issue, and return it back to the museum to complete the delivery. I have a friend that took museum delivery on his '06 vert a number of years ago, and everything was good but they noticed some sort of blemish in the paint on the trunk lid. The museum attempted to buff it out with no success. So, the car went back over to the plant and they replaced the trunk lid and returned it to the museum about an hour later. This is stuff that is just not possible to do at a dealership delivery. So, with this being a new production run with the C7s and I also new we would be an early vert, I decided that it was the smart thing to do. Fortunately, we did not have any issues.
I hope that was not too long winded, but if you are considering a museum delivery in the future, maybe this will help.
