Museum delivery of new C7

We just got back yesterday from Bowling Green after taking delivery of our new C7 convertible. The car is amazing! The capabilities of the new electronics will take a while to get my hands around, but very nicely done. Here is a pic of the car and my wife on Corvette Blvd inside the museum. I guess I need to change my signature when I get a chance! Damn it was cold up there.

Wow!! Very nice!

Did you have to drive in any snow on your way back home with it?

Actually no, other than it was cold (18 degrees the morning of our delivery at the museum), the roads were clean and dry all the way home. Not even any rain. We traveled down to Nashville with two to other couples that also took delivery the same day (all three were Laguna Blue, but everything else was different) and partied a little at the Opryland Hotel. Below is a pic the next morning with frost on the cars, but that was it for bad weather. We got lucky from that standpoint.

Glad you didn't get any crappy weather along the way. Excluding the cold, of course.

That looks like a real nice shade of blue. Can't wait to see what it looks like in person.

That is the coolest. I will be getting a C7 in a year or two and am thinking about the Museum Delivery option. Was it worth the $? Everyone who I've asked loved the experience. Can you elaborate on your delivery experience?

I think it was worth the money, others might disagree. First, our car happened to be in the first production run of verts. We met some people on line that our cars went through the production process together. So, when they were all built on the same day, we tried to get them delivered at the museum on the same day. Not an easy trick to accomplish. Both Lori and Shane, who handle the scheduling were great and helped us pull it off. Having your car staged on Corvette Blvd inside the museum is neat. You also are assigned a museum tech that handles the delivery. He also is your personal tour guide at the plant for your VIP tour. Very nice to have your own tour guide because if you have questions they will take the time to address them and you are not holding anyone else up. Once back at the museum, your tech goes over everything and I mean everything. And you take as much time as you think you need. They do not rush you.

I also chose to have them install an xPel Ultimate clear bra on the car. This is my first venture with a clear bra. They have expert installers, that are not employed by the museum, that come and install it on site. I only had the front bumper fascia installed and the film goes right up to were the fascia butts to the hood and front fenders. You cannot see it. I also found out that they did my mirrors and the door handle area at the cost of the bumper. Great job. We'll see how it works out.

But, the biggest reason to consider taking a museum delivery is that the museum mechanics are specifically trained to prep the C7. They are not just any tech at your local dealer. Any issues that may have come up have been communicated from GM to the museum. But most importantly, if there is an issue that cannot be resolved, the plant will send an engineer over to evaluate the issue at the museum. If there is a poor fitting or defective part, they will replace it on the spot, or take the car back over to the plant, fix the issue, and return it back to the museum to complete the delivery. I have a friend that took museum delivery on his '06 vert a number of years ago, and everything was good but they noticed some sort of blemish in the paint on the trunk lid. The museum attempted to buff it out with no success. So, the car went back over to the plant and they replaced the trunk lid and returned it to the museum about an hour later. This is stuff that is just not possible to do at a dealership delivery. So, with this being a new production run with the C7s and I also new we would be an early vert, I decided that it was the smart thing to do. Fortunately, we did not have any issues.

I hope that was not too long winded, but if you are considering a museum delivery in the future, maybe this will help.

Congratulations !

Nice looking convertible.

My wife has one on order but it hasn't been scheduled for production yet. We usually wait until we can get a deep discount before purchasing. The C7's are so special we decided to order early so we could enjoy it longer. She is already anxious. Laguna blue, black 2LT, carbon dash, auto, chrome wheels, Z51, black top.

We didn't specify museum delivery but certainly understand wanting to do that. Having museum tech's prep the car could be a real advantage. My uncle bought a 50th Anniversary convertible new from a local dealer. He complained several times about the ride being too firm. It even had magnetic shocks. Another dealership finally figured out that the shipping blocks hadn't been removed from the suspension in the dealer prep process.

I had a clear bra put on my '08 ZO6 day one. If you are really picky you can complain that the seams and slight orange peel appearance from the bra deter from the car but it sure saves the paint. I had the bra replaced after 5 years because the acid from the love bugs was making it look bad. That would have been in the paint if I hadn't had the bra.

Enjoy your C7 ! We'll be joining you ... eventually.

I remember you telling me on CF that you had one on order. I will say the Laguna Blue is stunning in person. At least that is my position and I got a lot of compliments from visitors at the museum the day we took delivery.

I think the clear bras have advance some over the last 5 years since you put one on your Z06. The museum provides xPel Ultimate and it has less orange peel than the older clear products. Also, they run the front bumper fascia right up to the hood and fender lines, so you cannot see the edge of the clear. You have to run your finger over the edge to really detect it. It might be something you want to do a little research on prior to getting your vert. BTW, after driving the car home for over 900 miles, I can tell you, it is a great car! You are going to love yours.

Beautiful and Congrats also. I had a museum delivery just before Christmas in 2006 and still have a perma-grin from it. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Trying to convince my wife to take the C6 while we add a C7 to the family!!!! Might take a couple years to convince her! :D:crazy03:

The quickest way to make this happen is to buy HER the C7. You will get to use it too!

Heck, that wouldn't work for me. Connie doesn't want to drive a stick shift, and she KNOWS I'm not keen on driving an automatic.

I do have to admit, though, that I'm REAL curious to see what GM comes up with in the new Z06 model. Not that I'm entertaining any sort of fantasy about buying one, however. These websites I run aren't bringing in nearly that kind of money for me. :nonod:

Since I am in my mid 60s and my wife is only a few years younger, I asked her if she wanted to consider the A6 trans this time around. She did not hesitate and said no. So, we ordered the 7 speed. The only issue now is finding reverse. The '69 is toward the driver and up, the Z06 is toward the passenger and up, and the C7 is toward the passenger and down. I now have to think a second before going into reverse depending on which Vette I am driving. Small price to pay though!

Mark, tell her you're gonna sell the 2006 to Dotty and me, and that you'll
be Vette-less, and see what THAT does. :D
Andy :wavey:

Actually you would be getting a beautiful impeccable spotless fantastic and gorgeous 07!!! I think I'll keep it. LOL.

Congrats Rich. I am most happy for you. It's gonna take a while but the day will come when Carrie and I go to Bowling Green to pick up our delivery Vette. Until then I will live vicariously through your enjoyment.

You have a most beautiful car.

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the comments. Believe me when it is time, the museum delivery is the way to go. Nothing is going to be perfect when you pick up a new car but the museum people do everything they can to make that day about you and your car. Lori, Shane, and your tech (in my case David) treat you like you are the only person there, and there are 7 other people taking delivery at the same time. It is well worth the price and I haven't even talked about the VIP tour of the plant. Your day will come if that is something that you would really like to do!

Please say hi to Carrie from Joyce and I, and you guys have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Rich
