Need hotel advice for the Keys

I wanted to take my wife and two daughters to Key West for a few days in early August before my oldest daughter starts college. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'd prefer something fairly nice like a Hyatt or Hilton type.

I liked the Best western Hibiscus .It's on the Atlantic end just off Duval.Very clean large rooms (all non smoking) nice heated pool .Walking distance to all of Duval. My wife is fussy and she liked it.

DoubleTree

I've been going to Key West since '84 and haved stayed all over the island. If you want to stay near Duval Street it's expensive and normally has a 3-day minimum. Our favorite is The Lighthouse Inn next to the Key West light house and across the street from Hemmingway's House. Go to www.historickeywestinns.com and select either that one or for a closer one to "downtown" is their Albany Court.

Last year our club drove to Ft. Myers and took the Key West Express boat. That is a neat trip; only 3 hours and you are docked in Key West! We stayed at the Doubletree on the north end of the island. Getting downtown was no problem as they had a shuttle running every hour. Takes you from the hotel to a great restaurant, Conch Republic. It is only 3 blocks from Duval. Have fun, but it's hot that time of the year!!! While in Buffett's Margaritaville, have the catfish ruben...yummmm!

The KW Xpress is a nice trip.

On the way down, don't worry about where you're at on board. Stow your gear, grab a drink and weather permitting, head out onto the deck.

Enjoy the dolphin, the wake and spray, and the smell of the sea:thumbsup:

We screwed up on the ride back and ended up at a window table. On the way donw it was fine. For the ride back, get there early and get one of the recliners in the center isle or the large cushy couch in the stern.

They have "in flight" movies or you can just kick back and relax/sleep on the way back. You can't see anything anyway, its pitch black outside:rofl1:

Enjoy!

How much is the Express from Fort Myers and what is the name of the outfit so I can look it up on the web? Thanks.

Normally it runs $125 round trip. Sometimes they have a coupon and you can get it for $99, that's per person. Still beats driving for 10 hours (round tripfrom Ft. Myers). Go on line and see if they are offering a coupon. The DoubleTree is a Hyatt. It leaves about 8AM so we went down the night before and stayed at a hotel nearby. They have secured parking at the dock.

Another vote for the Doubletree. My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon in 04.

Check out the Chelsea house pool and Gardens. I managed the place for almost 9 years (retired now) and my wife still works front desk there. About a half a dozen couples from the Central Florida Corvette Association stays there for a few days after the annual "Corvettes In Paradise" show.

Hey bud, we are heading down to the Keys in August also. Give me a call. We are planning on chartering a boat for some off-shore fishing, snorkeling on the reef, renting a couple of jet skis, the usual stuff... I don't know if our dates will work together, but give me a call, I can hook you up with my travel agent, she saved us a few hundred dollars from the usual sites, (travelocity,hotels.com, expedia), give me a call...
