OK guyz, listen up to this old marine about stress

New member
Guy's and ladies, but most of all those of you whom maybe, JUST maybe, dealing with financial stress, or other related family stress and I mean STRESSED OUT max, people.
This old Marine had seen plenty of stress both over the Pond, and at home.
I know these days are REALLY tough, I know Tough, seen Tough day's, lived tough day's, when things are up side down. BUT, you'll get through them, every day, is another day........and you get through them.
I came home this afternoon at noon to find out, my neighbor shot his wife, his two beautiful son's of 7 and 10, then himself.
I am in total shock. Our neighborhood, isn't that kind of place where this kind of thing happen's. But we are seeing it happen all over Orlando neighborhood's.

I ask anybody reading this that is going through rough times, and if you are, and if you have, or own a weapon, PLEASE PLEASE take this weapon from your home, let a friend or family whom live away, safe guard it until things get better in your life and home. As a former Marine, I have seen many times the person that you'd never expect to lose it, lose it. **** does happen.
OK, enough from me. I just truly do care about family member's and friends, the innocent, paying the horrible price for no reason.

What a needless tragedy. I thank you for reminding us that each day is precious. Also since we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, we should really be sensitive and kind to all. For a man to take the life of his wife, kids, and himself speaks volumes of a depressed person who probably didn't get help from anyone. Thanks again for sharing this most tragic event.

In Our community, just a few weeks ago

a very kind and good looking young 21 year old who worked for us and with us, as did his father too, the young man on his 21 birthday, received a call from his mother whom is and had been for year's, divorced from his father, the mother asked her son, Gary, how about I take you out for your birthday present to one of your favorite spots, the pistol range here in Altamonte Springs.
The boy was very excited, and met his mom there at the indoor pistol range.
The two with their head gear stepped up with the rented pistols and their ear protection head gear, the son was told by mom, you fire first at the target, he agreed, stepped forward took aim and his mother put her pistol to his head and shot him in the back of the head, then put the pistol to her head and shot herself.

THIS is just crazy. But, not over, a week later at the same pistol range another man depressed, went to the range, depressed, and blew his brains out, ALL OVER this economic depression, and losing his job without a way to support himself and family.
But when it happen's to a neighbor you just saw and spoke with 24 hours earlier, and no idea there's a problem? IT's very scary.
Again, I ask anyone who is having problems, seek a friend, a professional, clergy or whomever might lend a ear. But most of all, be safe, if you have a weapon, lend it over to someone to safe guard for you.

There's crazy stuff happening now folks, all over the country. Who knows what goes through peoples minds at a time like that. I can't imagine anything so terrible happening to me that I'd harm my family or friends. I hope before it came to that I'd seek out friends, family, church, whatever, and talk about it. Talking, and especially listening, can help tremendously. Sometimes (not always) there are signs beforehand, you just have to watch for them. Moodiness, bursts of anger, a normally outgoing person seeming withdrawn, etc. Things WILL get better.:yesnod:

Spiceman, great advice. Thanks for bringing it up. If just one person is helped by reading this, you have done a great service.

:iagree:

It's sad, but things are really getting out of hand:( People just don't handle stress the way they used to. I think we had a tougher nation in the 1st depression.

Regardless, there's always someone here ready to listen folks. I know, I've availed myself of your ears (eyes?) before:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Wow Spice didnt realize they were your neighbors. Sorry to hear that my thoughts and prayers are with you and their family

Hi Scully, how ya been , and how's Nancy

Ya brother very scary when it's a neighbor you know , but especially here where one thinks your safe, gated community, up-scale neighborhood and people here don't do crazy thing's.
Every person who live's directly on that Cul Delsac of JD Wood home are still in total shock as he and wife showed NO hint of financial problems.
Mostly for my wife and I , we remember their chrildren having a Lemonaid table on the corner and my picking on them about not enough sugar, and would try to bribe them with money to get some sugar for my next purchase.
On that cul desac there were 4 family's that had children the same age, and all played together. Directly on the coner, my close friend an FBI agent also JD's neighbor. I'm not going to repeat what he told me he found in that home, But the one thing he told me lst, was the 3 pistols found. The second, as we all know, no matter the reason's, these children didn't need to die.
Ya, this was and has been very tough for everyone.
By the way Skully, and everyone in here, Thanks for your Reply's.:shrug01:

I was reading the article in the paper it showed a picture of children. You are right they are the real victims here it was needless. We have all been there and there are better days ahead. I always ask why and how poeple can do such a horrific things to the poeple you love.

Lets see, I've been in Florida for a little over 5 years. My rent has rose Approx. $60.00 a year for a small two bedroom. I do have a nice little empty garage to look at though. A year ago, my wife was forced to leave the workplace because of failing eyesight and other health issues. WE weren't totally prepared for this so I started working 65- 70 hours a week. This plus the savings account we got a long for awhile. We applied for Social Security Disability and after 9 months the govt reply, no, there must be some type of job you can do.
At work we got a new plant manager and her first order of business, no overtime. Now the savings started going a little faster now I had no choice, the Vette is gone, why I haven't been posting for awhile. This new plant manager started rearranging the management structure at work and I ended up with a supervisor who has no clue to how we make the product in my department. This guy is a total a**. Heck Thor had the pleasure of meeting this fella. I thought my ears were burning that night:rofl1:
Six weeks ago we had a company meeting and were told lay offs were going to start and seniority was to be the determining factor. We were also told we could quit and take a severance package. I had nothing to worry about, sixteen years and in the top 15% seniority wise. Two weeks after that meeting I was called into the HR dept. and told I was being laid off in six days. I said I would take a severance, but was informed they never offered such a thing :shrug01: I guess it was like the seniority thing, you gotta love Florida and the right to work thing?
Remember that jerk supervisor I told you about, In the meeting about getting laid off, he sat in the corner with a grin on his face. Maybe because his brother with 10 months seniority and no skills is still there.
Lets see, now I should be getting an eviction notice in 10 days, not sure how long the whole process will take. The whopping $275.00 a week Florida gives in unemployment won't pay my electric and groceries let alone the car payment and rent.
Well I better stop my rant, what I really want to say... If I decide to take my 454 and do some shooting, my family won't be involved, but there's a few that might want to watch their backs :reddevil:

Damn, Rick. I'm really sorry to hear about you going through such hard times. It would piss me off no end if a company I worked for for 16 years pulled that kind of crap on me. But on the bright side, normally a company that makes those kinds of boneheaded decisions won't be around much longer anyway.....

Rick what do you do? There has got to be someone that can point you in a different direction.

I have had to start over several times, sell cars and move into smaller places. It sucks and now we are getting older an health care is an issue.

Good luck to you brother, don't do anything that you cant live with or give up on something you cant live without.

I don't think GE will be going under anytime soon, maybe the facility I worked at in Palmetto, but not GE

I make the coils that go inside the transformers you see at electrical sub- stations. At 57 not many look at you as a viable employment prospect :lmao:

Here's one for those of us with tough times.
I worked as an engineer with GM in Chevrolet and at times special projects w/ Corvette. and inside Chevrolet race shop. Even worked my last years there with the CERV program.
Now one would think, working as an employee with GM, The LARGEST Corporation in the World (or had been at the time) work your 20 and retire early. So, for myself, worked 23 years. Took early buy out and was only 54.
Vested myself deep in GM stock, and their 401K programs. LIFE would be easy.
Next step, keep working, find a good paying job but again, do it with something you like. Be Smart.
So I'd grown up around the carpentry trade of my grandfather a master cabinet maker. Learned it early, used this same trade to help pay college funds.
Well, anyone in here got a guess how much I've lost w/ GM's falling on it's face? Anyone gotta ideah how the home building high end carpentry trade is doing? And by the way, I'm retirement age now.
So, here's my story up-dated..........I last week deceided to do something about my retirement. GO out get a JOB. Shake them bushes every which way and see what fall's out. Well I start back to work Monday. And start back with a job that pay's only $2.00 an hour less than my last job. HOWEVER,
this job has health insurance, 401K, pay's per diem, and travel time, for which the last company I was with paid only a hourly wage.
By the way, my GM retirement????????? My 401's have lost what could have bought 2 new ZR-1's + about 30K cash. That's what I got for 23 years of loyality and dedication.
bottom line my friends, Sh** Happens. But for me, I had NO guarnentee's coming into this world, and certainly none when leaving it. Make your way fellow vetter's, there's always tomorrow.

Well said Spice:thumbsup:

Even jobs that people once thought untouchable, the military (except the Army and Marine Corp), firefighting, paramedics, medical and law enforcement, are all now starting to take thier hits.

I work for myself and at times even doubt my sanity for doing so, but in the long run, I don't think I ever want to work (full time) for anyone else again!

There's just no loyalty to people anymore. It's all about "me" and what "I" can do for "me" in corporate America:(

Spice is right. There's no guarantees and sometime, as they say, the best laid plans....

Rick, let me know if there's anything I can do to help in the job search?

Stay pro brother...
Gordon

Rick dont give up on the disability find you a disability specialist (lawyer)and they will help you out. I have a friend who was turned down twice. He hired this type of lawyer at no expense to him and was accepted after he made his case. He was very deserving of a disability claim and couldn't get anyone to listen to him they gave him the same answer get a job you can do. They even sent him to a trade school to try to get him back in the workforce. But unfortunatley his health wouldn't let him continue. My advice is dont let those bastards get you, fight them, we pay into that system all our lives and when we need help there is always some excuse they cant help you "BS" if you push hard enough you'll get it. Make some noise they dont like that. Write letters to every elected offical you can. Go down there and get pissed demand to see someone "a supervisor" and dont take no for a answer. Dont threaten them just be strong with your demands and dont give up.
I lost everything to a as I call it a dot gone investment program. So I feel your pain and I still had 3 kids at home. I had to start over with zip zero. I just don't take any **** from any of those jokers anymore. And guess what "I'm back" :reddevil:
