Pin Stripes

I have been thinking about painting a couple of black stripes on the front fenders. (Monterey Red Vette)

I would like to outline the stripes using painters masking tape to see what it would look like before getting it done.

Is the masking tape safe to use on the paint? Would it create a problem when I lift it up? :shrug01:

Thanks.

Tape

When I had our '03 pin striped he used tape on the long runs from front to back. Pulled off with no problem. Just don't leave it sit in the sun; you will have a problem then.

Use the painter's blue tape, instead of masking. It comes off very easy. Most that race their cars at Sebring use it to cover the wheel openings and the nose of their cars to protect from rock chips when running. They also use it for numbering their cars and it comes off after a full day at the track.

First Try

Got the blue painters tape and layed it out on the fender.
Did the best I could with Paint.net software to color it black but as tape got further from the center of the image, it would not cover the blue so it is a little shoddy at the top. I don't know. I am not sure I like it.

What do you think?

That is really different, and I'm not kissing butt, I really like it allot!

If I had my right hand that goes by photoshop installed on this thing I would help you out, But it give a good general Idea

Thanks Rashelle.

My thought is to have two black 3/16" wide parallel lines, about 1/16" apart, where you see each strip of tape. You would know that the lines are there but not over-powering.

Just want it to be a little different than other red vettes.

After the New Year I plan to take the car and my idea to Chris Cruz in Deland for his thoughts. He does great stripping work.

At first, I liked it. After looking at it for a couple of minutes, I'm not sure I like the starting or ending point. It makes the fender look tacky. I do think it would look better on the side of the hood but then there are lots of folks that do that too.
Maybe some variation of subtle ghost flames on the fenders would be really different and classy as you don't see MR vettes with that. Just my humble .02 worth. Good luck and I hope to see pics here when you are finished.

Thank you Thor. I appreciate your opinion. That is what I was looking for.
When you get a chance, go to the Bondurant racing school website and look at their cars front fender graphics. That is the theme I am trying to decide how it would look on my car.
