ramps

hi all, i was wondering if anyone can tell me where i can purchase ramps for my C6 in the tampa bay area. thanks:D

I'm sure you can get them at any automotive place, you just want to be sure that the chin won't scrape on the front as you pull on so do some measuring ahead of time. I made my own out of wood I purchased at Home Depot, took about 25 minutes and cost about ten of fifteen dollars. See this thread for dimensions and a pic if you might want to make your own.

A lot of people like Rhino Ramps, they usually run between $45.00 and $65.00. Advanced Auto sells Rhino Ramps, you also might want to try Sears.

Thanks for the info. good job on your ramps, I just need something light in weight but yours are awsome.:D

You can purchase these at Advanced Auto or most auto parts stores. They come in black or grey. The gray ones are the best to handle the wide tires. Put a 2x6..or 2x8 in front and you can drive up without any problem...

Thanks I have a set of rhino's from my previous car i will try your suggestion and it will save me alot of money. thanks again.:D

Actually I've been looking at a set offered by Ecklers that look pretty nice, but expensive ($300!)......

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=48948&dept_id=120

Only problem is that I don't have a hard surface to put these things on and they will have to be on hard packed sand that is under my car port.

But I can see where it would be handy having them around. I was trying to touch up some rust spots on my turbo housings and there wasn't any way I could get to the back of them (these are rear mounted STS units, btw) with the car sitting on the ground. Raising the car just a foot in the back would have made a world of difference.

Hi rich, concrete or slabs of heavy duty plywood should help.:D

I found a set on Ebay that I got for $280. Looking to add a set of wheel chocks to that order as well. These ramps are enclosed on the bottom, so they should hold up well on the packed sandy surface of my car port area. I figure if the tires themselves don't sink into the ground, neither will those ramps.

Maybe one of these years I can get a garage build with a lift. Now that would be real handy. I sure miss the days when I was able to use the lifts at my dad's service station.

hi rich I would still put heavy grade plywood longer and wider under the ramps for safety reasons.:D

Yeah, you are probably right. I love my vettes, but I don't want them laying on top of me... :ack2:

Well bear in mind that these ramps I am getting are alread 14" wide, and 67" long. They are closed on the bottom and will have substantial surface area on the ground.....

Safety, Safety, Safety always have a backup. Pea gravel moves, we need your wisdom, I do not care what the builders of the ramps say. You can do it 1000 times but 1 time is all it takes! Always remember your life first. :D

Actually my driveway is hardpacked sandy soil. No gravel or stones at all.....

You need to be careful. I witnessed a man die under a Corvette that fell while he was changing the oil in his drive way. I learned years later that he was a member of the club I belong to now. Very sad.

Actually I'm not planning on using them much. I would like to get behind the turbo housings to remove the rust on them and paint them. Maybe put on one of those polished muffler panels on the C6. So I'm just going to be lifting the car so I can get under the front or rear edge a bit. I'm not about to go full body underneath the car at all. I'm too claustrophobic for that stuff. Just want to do some minor things that it's just TOO minor to have a dealer do on a lift, but I just can't get up to my shoulders underneath the car while it is on the ground.

Do you happen to know what sort of stands or ramps that guy you mentioned was using? I've seen some pretty looking stands on the market that no way I would get under a car trusting them with my life. Just applying some torque on a wrench looked like they would tip over.
