Sold My 54 Corvette

ChuckG

Retired Florida Geezer
Yep, sold it a few weeks ago. The new owner gave me a 50% deposit. He'll be picking up the car in mid to late January. The car will be going to Miami Florida. :)

This is "one" piece of the puzzle that I needed to complete before my own retirement to Florida in about 2 years.

We own some property North of Tampa, up near Crystal River. We're probably going to sign a contract to begin building a house when we come down in January.

I understand it still takes 18 to 24 months to get a house "done" from the time you sign the contract till the house is finished.

That would fit our time frame just fine.

Hated to sell the 54, as I've had it for 25 years, BUT I rarely drove it, and it was THE MOST uncomfortable car for a guy my size, 6'4", 240#.

I'm keeping the 63 and the 69. Chuck

Congratulations....I think. I've always fantasized about owning a 53-57 but I can relate to the retirement thing. You've picked a nice area for your home. I live about 1 hr south in all the congestion and am thinking of a move, just haven't decided where. :)

Hey Chuck

Congrats om the sale! Crystal River Is a nice area and it has a Pretty neat Corvette Club over there.

So if it's not leaving until January.... how about some :pics: of the :vette:

The 63 & 69 too!!! :yesnod:

WOW, that's quite a stable! It had to be tough deciding to get rid of the '54.

I'd been thinking about it for several years. I one way it's tough, but in another way, I never drove it. It was SO uncomfortable for me.

It ran fine, still does. You could cruise all day at 65 MPH in it.

I don't drive my cars much, but I do like to drive them. My wife and I have driven the 69 from Baltimore to Bowling Green, to St. Louis, and to Montauk, Long Island. Several trips were 5-7 days long.

I drive the 63 around town. This past winter, I ditched the 4.11 gears and put in 3.55's to make it more "Interstate friendly". Got tired of screaming up the road at 4000 RPM just to keep up with traffic.

Both the 63 and 69 are VERY comfortable for me to drive.

I sold my MY 2000 convertible this past spring. Rarely drove it. Put about 1500 miles on it in 2 1/2 years.

Here's a better pic of the 54.

Good idea about the 4.11's. That's way too much gear for the highway. I've never sat in a C-1 but have been in several C-4's. They're very difficult (for me) to get in and out of. It seems like the seats are way below the door sill and you've got to literally climb up to get out.:nonod:

Chuck,

Glad to see you made the sale. I was getting tired of seeing you get out of the '54 and look like the hunchback of Notre Dame! :lmao:

Well, you reduce your stable and I just added to mine. Picked up a '04 Z06 Commemortive Edition with 5,900 miles on it. So, the '01 Vert goes to Ft. Myers with us next week and we will leave it there, and will have to ship the '69 and the Z06 in a few months. I had thought I was only going to have to pay to ship just one. But I couldn't help myself when I saw the Z06.

Give me a call when you get a chance, I have a smog question for you. Got my stuff from Bill H. the other day.

The other Fallstonian is Rich M . I've known Rich for years. Lives a few miles down the road from me. Belongs to my NCCC club. Chuck

I was admiring your awesome collection. I especially liked the 63. I remember my brother had a 66 back in the late 60's which started my love affair with the corvette when I was about 15 or so. Thanks for sharing and welcome to Florida.:welcome: :dancer01:

Good talking to you today, Rich. We'll get together over the winter to "re smog" your 69. We're gonna have fun getting the pipe plugs out of the manifolds.

Might have to resort to "the BLUE WRENCH". :) Chuck
