steering lock recall

Proud owner of a 2000 c5, 6 speed manual. Steering lock won't release after the facory recall was done in 2005 according to the sticker under the hood, really don't want to disable this feature, $700 repair!!!!!! WHAT WOULD YOU DO? :toetap05:

In 2005 the recall came under code 04006. They had another one that was 04006C which removes the column lock plate completely and replaces the harness kit. I would try your local dealer and see if they can still take care of it being that it is a revised factory recall. I had mine done on my 2003 Z06 earlier this year and the dealer covered it.

Here are the part numbers of the replacement parts:

#89023816 Harness Kit
#88965331 Lock

Hope this helps - good luck.

If you do not over ride it, it will always come back.

Mine locked and the recalled was performed. It locked again, 2nd recall was performed. When it locked the 3rd time I put the “Colum Lock By Pass On”. Now Trouble and Worry Free!

Good Luck

I'm too late for all of your advice, I had verified the original recall had been done (2-2005), did not know about the second recall until I read these replys. All the grounds were checked for fretting. Really don't want to override a feature of anti-theift though. The factory customer service rep. declined any assistance. Down almost $700 (at least my dealer gave me a discount for working for another brand dealer). BUT!!!!!!! I'm not done yet! My recouped money will go into the Vette. Thanks again for all of your imput.

I thought there was actually a later recall that completely removed the locking plate that the actuator goes into? That should have ended the problem.

If it locked again, then the dealer didn't do the 2nd recall or do it properly?? They are supposed to physically remove the lock(ing) mechanism. You can tell if it was done because the wheel will not lock with the key removed, anymore. I have read numerous threads like yours. Take it back and get it done right. I rest my case. Hope this helps. After 50 years of Corvettes and trying to deal with GM dealer's--I want to scream.:banghead:

I have the CLB I will not take it back to the dealer.
I know some one who has had it on his 99 for atleast 6 years and never a problem...
Since 03 mine locked 3 times the last time was when I put the CLB on.

It always locked after both recalls...On the third time locking I learned my lesson :banghead:

Rich -

The 04006C is the last recall that removed the locking piece. The steering wheel never locks once it is done.
