Well I must say I am really going to miss a lot of things about florida. I will however be back to visit family and all that good stuff. As much as i wish i could have met the guys on this forum im afraid it probably wont happen now. I recieved a phone call today from the U.S. Border patrol informing me that I have recieved the job and my start date. I'm leaving in two weeks to start a great journey and future with my new wife. we will be moving out to texas. I will have to leave the vette behind while im at the academy the wife knows not to touch it.:NoNo: she is actually afraid of it lol. after i graduate the academy ill be home to pack up and we will be moving out to texas. i'm going to trailer the vette up there dont want to rack up the miles.

well CONGRATS !~!!!

Heck yeah break that vette in... im sure it will be the only loonnnggg road trip it will see...

good luck... stay safe !!

First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS:dancer01: on the new job.

Be careful out there and cover your back (physically and administratively).

Next, I have to agree with the others....these things were meant to be driven!!

Drive the SOB like you stole it all the way to Texas:D:vette:

Enjoy the academy. How long is it now days?

Stay safe and stay in touch bro....

Gordon

hey thanks guys. I will still be on the site and ill keep in touch..... I'm just going to be living in another state. as to the car im going to be trailering it out there i have a friend with a semi he has an enclosed car trailer. oh dont worry ill break it in there are plenty of open roads and highways were im going to be stationed. im going to be in the marfa sector west texas.
the academy starts may 1st and if i can test out of the spanish then ill graduate in july if not then september.
and dont worry i always have eyes in the back of my head. I'm going home at the end of the day no matter what!

Good luck with the new job and new home! Texas is probably one of the better states to move to, compared to others in the USA.

Best of luck.

My wife is from south Texas and I have been through and visited a lot fo the state. I can tell you it will be like night and day compared to Florida. My experiences have been that people are very, very friendly and polite there. People drive quite fast in texas but at the same time certainly know how to drive friendly.

You will get stuck with a front license plate and annual inspections though. I really liked the central standard time, that was cool being an hour behind.

Might want to grab a copy of Rosetta Stone Spanish software unless you already habla Español.

Take care and congrats on the new job.

Good luck

Good luck with your new job....Texas is a beautiful state, you will experience a vast and ever changing landscape. I was born and raised there, wish I were moving back......really miss the people and the way of life. Take care and be safe.

Oh yeah.....drive that Vette!! Hit I10 in West Texas where its legal to do 85, and open her up. We did coming back from a trip out to California a few years ago.......what a blast, I think we hit 120 before we decided that it was a little dangerous because of the time of day and the deer we saw on the side of the road

Not to mention Texas has at least declared it's sovereignty and is sovereign, unlike here. Good luck with the new job.

hey thanks guys and im going to try and keep my fl tag as long as i can before switching i hate the front plate eewww anyway i saw that there is a tag mount that doesnt require any drilling into the front bumper so ill be ordering that.
I am really excited about moving out there I just hope i can find a place to live by the time the academy ends. from what i hear housing is fairly cheap.

Cheap ain't the word for it.

If I didn't mind being that far inland (excluding Galveston and other Hurricane magnets:lmao:) I'd move there tomorrow. There's a lot going on or you can find a place to get away. Either way, Texas probably has something for you.

Does the BP allow you to have a "home state" like the military?

If so, there's your answer. Keep Florida your state of residence and move TDY with them wherever they want to send you:thumbsup:

Congrats on the new job, and thanks in advance for your service! The wife is native Texan and we've been thinking about making the move for about 2 yrs now...made several trips to various parts of the state and love it!! Great mentality of the people...very few "liberal" areas (Austin, as you might expect). Am told by the folks out there that the front tag (for vettes) is very loosely enforced in most areas and mostly the LEO's won't bother unless you are stopped for another infraction...Good Luck!!

Congratulations!! My son began his law enforcement career in the Border Patrol twelve years ago and was stationed in Kingsville, Texas for two years. He is now a criminal investigator with another agency in New Jersey. He keeps in touch with his BP friends and he and his wife just spent a week's vacation in San Antonio visiting with his buddies. Stay in touch with this forum and let me know if you get assigned to Kingsville.
I'll get you a couple of names to say hi to.
Best of luck!!
