General Motors, the largest US automaker and the third biggest in the world, pledged this month it would invest $5.4 billion in the next few years to recondition and upgrade its 40 US production facilities. As part of the massive spending program, the automaker also announced it would use $439 million on a new Corvette paint shop, to be constructed at the Bowling Green, Kentucky factory where the company outputs its Chevrolet Corvette sports car.
