I have used Dimmit Chevrolet , typical dealer, but pretty good vette guys in the garage.
I have heard Auto XTC in Pinellas Park has a really good vette guy there also.

John Wilson.....
I had him change out the oil pressure sender on my 2000. Took about an hour and a half
but in his defense, I was talking to him, asking him questions, watching over his
shoulder, and just being my normal pain in the ass in general :rofl1::rofl1:. Not
only did he put up with my interruptions, he also took time to explain to me what
he was doing and why he was doing it !!!!

vette

Looking into either a 2000 or 2001 vette and am a little concerned about the oil consumption problems I have been reading about. many have said they needed to do ring jobs to correct the problem and I don't think I would like to have that expense after shelling out for the cars in question. the 2000 is a 6 sp and the other is an automatic.I am not going to be racing around with the car it will be a daily driver.Has anyone had the oil issues? Not sure if this is the right forum for these questions? Thanks

I've got a 2000, and (knock on wood) don't have any oil usage issues. But then again, I change oil and filter every 3000 to 3500 miles. have someone follow you and look for tale-tales. Go down a long hill (like there's a lot of those in Florida) with your foot off the gas, and at the bottom of the hill get on the gas pretty good and watch for blue smoke, then get on it hard from a standing start after idling for 30 seconds or so and watch for blue smoke. You can also do a compression check and a leak down test to check for something "not quite right" internally. How many miles on them?

if your anywhere near tampa, you have to check out antivenom. youd be hard up to find anyone more knowledgeable about these cars than mr. and mrs. antivenom. i have a 2000 and have not had any issues with oil consumption. the only thing ive had to do for my car was change the battery, any other problems ive experienced were self induced. im running around 150k, and car is my daily driver. extremely reliable, good looking, and great gas mileage.

Clock do you have the 6 sp or auto? I know everyone says to look for the 6 speed but I am not into running the car hard just a daily driver. I will try to get in touch with antivenom and ask a few questions Thanks

auto. i work downtown. stop go traffic gets really old driving a manual. ive driven both, and yes, sometimes i wish it was a manual. but not for long. the reality of where i drive sets in and im glad i went with the auto. the 4l60e is a time proven tranny and with a tune can give you quick firm shifts.

vette oil consumption

To tell you the truth I am in the dark as to the oil issue.I have not yet purchased anything and I don't want to until I can find out a little more as to which ones to shy away from. I am looking at a 2001 automatic with 60,000 mi.asking $16,000. I have no way of looking at the car since it is in Va. but I have been chatting back and forth trying to findout as much info as possible.I was told that the models dated late in the year did not have an issue so I am trying to get that info now.:banghead:

Give Auto XTC a call at 727-575-1292. Larry French is ithe owner. John Wilson is the awesome tech there. Has worked and done all the maintenance and mods on my 2007 vert since day 1.
If it helps, tell them Mark from Bradenton recommended you to them.
You can usually tell a great garage by how clean and organized they are. That's not to say that the dirty ones don't know what they are doing. I just like garages that take pride in thier appearance. You could eat off the floor at Auto XTC!!!
Hope this helps. Mark aka THOR.:thumbsup:

Just a quick note these ls engines have a couple of issues:
one with strong vacuum they pull a lot of oil from the engine into the intake
so after going down hill (coasting) this vapor is pulled into intake valves and
you can see it as smoke when apply power.
Second they also wear the valve guides (iron guides) all ls engines that I've
pulled down show signs of wear on guides.Non of these are a concern just
nature of the beast,I have to have brass liners installed in valve guides
before reassembly. If the car drives and checks out good shouldn't be a big
problem. You could install a catch can in vac line.

My vette shop in VERY central Florida part Sorrento, Route 46

Some pictures of the joint, and what I have going on at Route 46 Corvette.
Something for everyone I'd like to think. Donna Korb owner or as we refer to her as "DK", has put alot of time and engery into this shop. Take a look, and see for yourself. Any questions? let us know how we can better serve everyone.:crazy03:
