What a vacation

I really took a vacation last week. Left my laptop at work, turned off my BlackBerry and spent time at home with my wife. What a great week. After about 3 days together we both realized how much we're missing in life by putting our careers first. We made a decision to start taking at least one weekend a month off (maybe more) to travel the state and just enjoy time together.

This Florida native is looking for idea for 1 to 2 day trips to places I should have scene years ago. Not really theme parks, we did all of those with the kids. Please give me a few suggestions.

Definitely a good idea. You can make all the money in the world but you've still gotta make time for yourself and those you love.:yesnod:

There's an excellent soft cover book "One Tank Trips" with Bill Murphy of Fox13 Tampa Bay. It's short and concise and has local routes laid out. I think you 'll like it. I found it at Books a Million.

Congrats on your recent new life!! Now run, (don't walk) to your nearest bookstore and get copies of "Best Backroads of Florida" by Douglas Waitley. There are 3 volumes (depending on which area of the state you want to explore). Most of the usual tourist garbage is omitted and most all of the little known points of interest are covered. You will find many overlooked points of interest along with miles of interesting roadways that will be enjoyed by you, wife, and the vette...these books are the "bibles" used by our club as the basis for many of our trips and cruises.:yesnod:

Man, you've got the RIGHT idea! That is exactly the same reason I put my business up for sale and intend to retire by January 1. Been working so hard making a living that we aren't LIVING a living. So screw that.

I think we can make it on our savings and the little bit of income my websites bring in. Connie and I haven't had a real vacation (meaning more than 3 days) for around 20 years. What we want now more than anything (well Connie says she wants to sleep for the entire first week) is to be able to jump into one of the cars and just head out. ANYWHERE. No destination, no itinerary, no reason to have to come back before any particular deadline...

And quite honestly, I'm just tired of busting my rump only to have Uncle Sam come up with reasons to be taking away increasing amounts of the rewards for my labors. I've never minded paying my own way, but damned it I want to be paying OTHER people's way as well....

Guilty Tracy :shrug01:

I'm just thinking of the side benefits I'll get from spending more time with the little lady. Selfish I know.

If I get up real early I can probably sneak down for a few hours Saturday for your Dyno Day.

wow and i thought i was doing good heading down to st aguastine for 2 days with the vette. nice scenery good food and good company. only takes 3 hours to get there cant figure out how a maid it 5 hours to get there we only stopped 6 times lol.

Actually Wakulla Springs is a mere 7 miles east of where Connie and I live. Why not have a CorvetteFlorida outing there sometime?

Hey man, it's ALL good. Any Corvette is better than no Corvette at all. And it's certainly no sort of competition at all!

Not really sure what day Chris will want me to bring out the vette to get the motor transplant, but hopefully it won't be too long. Just waiting for all the parts to show up at his shop so he can do everything in one fell swoop.

Actually as we are winding down our business, Connie and I wouldn't mind a little trip to Wakulla Springs if anyone is interested in doing something like that. It's REALLY a nice place to visit. The only thing we've got on our plates right now is a trip to drop off some animals on 09/05, and a trip down to Naples to do the same thing an undetermined day sometime in the next week.
