• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

What is rep power?

Read about it here:
http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2827

Post a bunch of useless, meaningless, ramblings and your rating will go up

Or, as an alternative, post some useful, meaningful, thought provoking, and helpful messages on this site, and those members with a rep power can pat you on the back by awarding you "reputation points" that will increase the power of your own ability to award those points to someone else.

The amount of reputation YOU have is determined by the number of green blocks in your profile section. The POWER FACTOR is the number near that rep display which shows you the relative POWER of your ability to grant positive rep points.

The "power factor" is determined by a complicated combination of time registered on the site, the number of posts you made, some other factors I can't remember right at the moment, and the number of times other members have appreciated your posts enough to give you rep points for your contributing helpful words of wisdom here.

It's all in fun and a nice way for other members to thank you for the especially good posts you have made on this site.

There also exists the ability to issue NEGATIVE rep points, but since I have had difficulties with people abusing that power on my other sites, I did not want that to happen here, and have therefore disabled that capability.

:shrug01:WTH did he just say?:lmao:

Now that was simple enough for even me to understand:thumbsup::thumbsup::lmao:

Interesting... not an entirely logical system without some way to subtract points. A blind squirrel may find a nut every now and then, but if the majority of the posts spew bad/incorrect/misleading information, they could appear really trustworthy if they make a good post every now and then over a long period of time.

What I'm trying to say is that this feature could be misleading. Ever been on a site where some retard makes mod? He's brought on for being a friend, but spews bad information. People believe him because, hey, he's a mod, so he knows what he's talking about. Right?

And theoretically speaking, couldn't you just give yourself the rep point? The admins don't have a limit on how many they can cast. Hmmm... :crazy9:

The idea behind the rep points is for EXCEPTIONALLY good posts to be rewarded by others. But of course, some people can abuse an anvil with a rubber hammer...... And negative points really don't do anything more than to piss off the person who gets them.

As for giving yoursel rep points, nope you can't do that unless you create a false account and do it that way. As for the admin, that's me, and I have no incentive to abuse the system at all.

I stayed out of that ! already got my knuckles beat!

This can't be working that way as I read some posts and can't make any sense out of them or what they are actually being posted for. I'm sure some of my posts are taken this way by others, but there are some who's majority of post seem lost and they accumulate points.

I have my rep points turned off, but somehow they still seem to increase

I thought the same thing at first. Thought, wow, there should be a way to give negative rep points too.

Then it was explained as Rich did previously. I still thought, nah, that just ain't right?

After a while I got to thinking (that usually indicates trouble:hehehe:), about the whole thing and went...why?

There's enough BS on most other websites and this one is very user friendly:thumbsup:Why screw it up with (another) way top be negative to one another?

I figure if someone spews nonsense, then people will catch on. And mod, admin, or whomever, it won't matter, people will know not to trust the information.

As well, the folks on here are pretty good about spotting trolls and troublemakers:thumbsup:

As far as I'm concerned, we could dump the "rep points" all together and it wouldn't bother me one bit. I never look at them anyway!:D

Ever been on a site where some retard makes mod?

:lmao::rofl1::rofl1::lmao:...yes...:lmao::lmao:
