Default Dim dash lights

I seem to have kinda dim dash lights. Can anyone offer info as to how many and where the dash lights are on a 72 so I can begin the one by one checking to see if (or how many) bulbs are out?

Do you know for sure it's the bulbs?

Are they dim with the engine off or on?

Check battery connections?

Check voltage out of the allternator?

Jeeze. OK dim with the engine running. What should the voltage out of the Alt be? and heck no I'm not sure its the bulbs. I have found that by using the headlight switch and rotating it I can turn them down, down, down to off and back to not too bloomin bright. Battery connections appear clean and tight

Your volts should be around 12-12.5 at the battery when the car is NOT running.

Volts should be around 14-14.5 at the battery when the car IS running.

Check you alternator belt tension?

When the car is running, does your lights dim when you turn on your head lights on?If so then the alternator is mot charging the battery and or the battery is not Holding a charge,Bad cell perhaps, check the water level in the battery,if it's low, fill it up and the put the battery on a charger over night.
