SO much negativity, and as mentioned didn’t mean to ruffle feathers but we obviously did as we suspected we would. Guess we shaming you into taking out your car and driving your car in the event instead of just waxing it didn’t do it. But the rest that was said we did mean; that so many buy these nice performance cars then don’t drive them. Your kids will appreciate them when you pass away and they get them to drive. You can’t take them with you ya know.
As for all the math you did, very astute of you but this goes to many people and not just one charity, we see that the people aren’t scamming as you so nicely put it, just to get something for free.
Yes it is for the fun of it with the benefit of possibly getting a few good bucks at the end of the road which isn’t too shabby. Charity or not in any case it is worth the effort for the benefit.
So once again our apologies to those who did get their feathers ruffled, just wanted to wake you up to drive your cars and not just sit and way them all the time. For the few that did not care for the comment, our apologies. For all those that emailed us agreeing but didn’t want to post it and then signed up, we thank you and wish you the best in the event. It’s all in the marketing people, even getting a rise out of folks is marketing and getting people to mention it to others.
Thanks again everyone.
Florida Shootout
"Ruffle feathers"?
Bet your ass you did

but not for the reason you think.
It's your approach, commentary and attitude that I'm personally opposed to.
I'm speaking as a member here not a moderator when I say this:
1) IMO-If you want to be taken seriously, you may want to try SPELL CHECK & GRAMMAR CHECK when you're posting.
2) If you want people to want to come to your event, you may want to be less aggressive or abrupt in your attidtude toward them:nonod:
Your continued characterization of our membership (and vette owners in genreral) as old waxers that never drive thier cars is offensive and off base.
I know that's the "general" concensus, and I've even used that generalization before. But not when trying to win friends and influence people:lmao:
I'e used it (because it's generally considered) when discussing the next generation of corvette owner and styling.
But never to try and motivate people to attend an event.
I doubt you've met many if any of our members. If you had, you'd realize just how off base you really are:dancer01:
Most of the ones I've met over the years here, not only SHOW thier cars, but will likely SHINE your ass on the "track" as well!
when I had my 87, I drove it like I stole it! It wasn't all that fast, but I drove it like it was

That's one of the reasons they were built isn't it?
We have our share of shiners for sure. Every group does.
But we also have a fair share of racers and performance tuners (RevXtreme, AntiVenom, and some others that I'm sure I've missed)
I've been around cars and shows more than I car to think over my 53 years on earth.
I've been around the exotics, the performance rods and customs, the vettes, vipers, and hot rods.
They all have thier differences when it comes to what they do with thier rides.
To categorize one group simply because of your personal bias just doesn't cut it with me.
"Negativity?"
I didn't see any at first.
One of the members asked a simple, fair and legitimate question, and
you became defensive. You began belittling the ownership class as a whole, and copped an attitude
Most groups that I've known that are organizing an event as large as this is supposed to be, have professional PR types that handle these kinds of questions. For the organizers, due to the amount of work, stress and $$ they sometimes have tied up in an event, the question can be see as an attack on thier event. This would understandably lead to a defensive posture.
A professional, possibly even detached, Public Relations person, would be able to handle that more eloquently, give the answers people seek and make the event more enticing to attend:thumbsup:
Just like a local car show, when the organizer said "the newer vettes weren't welcomed":nonod:
That goofy move dinged his attendance for quite a while.
The $$$/charity issue is also a valid point.
I contribute to St. Judes, Wounded Warriors, Breast Cancer organizations, and a host of other charities that are near and dear to me. But before I gave a dime to the first one, I checked it out!
We call it "DUE DILIGENCE."
At the end of the year, when the Gestapo wants your hard earned income (tax), and you want to claim the deduction, you BETTER have done your due diligence or all those donations just went out the window!
For someone to ask about the charity aspect of the event is not all that unusual. As a matter of fact, I will attend an event sometimes BECAUSE OF THE CHARITY, even if I don't have an entry.
I'll pay to show up and look, just to benefit the cause. There are a LOT of people in the Corvette community that give till it hurts. Some are scraping by and others can afford it. Regardless, this is one community that puts its money where it's mouth is regularly. One that is always ready to help out, lend a hand or support a cause.
Overall, they're a very philanthropic group of people:thumbsup:
So, which charities will this ultimately benefit if I may ask? Are you guys a registered 501 w/the IRS?
For the few that did not care for the comment, our apologies.
There's no need for an apology. Let's just try to move forward from here:thumbsup:
For all those that emailed us agreeing but didn’t want to post it and then signed up, we thank you and wish you the best in the event
That's just rediculous.
You haven't been here that long or posted that much, and it's obvious to me that you don't understand what makes this little group different from the big, national forums.
Here, we're not censored. We're able to speak our minds. Unlike some of the major sites, we're not overmoderated and restructed.
As you can see, even the mods get into the fray:dancer01:
We hash things out, make our opinions known, and speak our minds.
If this had been a thread on why GM can't sell more vettes or what we need for the future of GM's Corvette sales (see related thread via search), you'd find comments similar to yours, regarding stereotypes, driving ability, and use, made by several people including myself!!
And you'd see the alternative viewpoint as well.
There's nothing to fear here, it's just an OPINION.
What you won't find (very long anyway) is a member berating or belittleing another member or group of members, simply because of the way they choose to use thier cars.
We tend to keep it respectful here.
Anyone that emailed you agreeing with your gross generalization of vette owners, but was "afraid to post it here"

has either not been here long enough to really understand our open attitude, or has been pistol whipped somewhere else and is still a little gun shy.
There's no reason to be. That's just not the way we are:thumbsup:
It’s all in the marketing people, even getting a rise out of folks is marketing and getting people to mention it to others
It's been said, mostly as it pertains to Hollywood and Politicians (there's some coorelation there somewhere?), that any exposure is good exposure. And there's some truth to that.
I'm a business person and have been for a number of years. If all others here when they hear your name (event) mentioned is negativity, then don't bet on a huge turnout or a lot of business.
I've seen events destroyed because of negativity and in some cases, childish bickering and back stabbing between groups.
You don't need that.
Frankly, as both a moderator and an individual, I hope this event goes off big time and becomes an annual event, raising a ton of $$$$ for various charities.:dancer01:
I also hope you can cover your expenses and make a few bucks too (got to be careful if your a 501 though).
And finally, I hope you decide to stick around and continue to post up events and join in on the chatter around our house:yesnod::thumbsup:
Take care,
G
