427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

Captain's Log - Stardate Thursday, 06/10/2010

Chris called this morning to tell me that the new headers came in but one of them had a dent in one of the primary tubes, apparently caused by UPS. So he was going to be running out to UPS to file a claim.

He also said that he needed to order a new set of fuel rails, as the ones he got were not compatible with the FAST 102 intake. Apparently this slipped by him when we decided on the FAST intake midstream.

Wasn't any sense in me running out there.

Just got off the phone with Chris.

He's got the fuel rails ordered and they will be in sometime on Monday. He said the UPS claim was filed, but I didn't ask about an ETA for a replacement.

Still waiting to hear back from Josh about the throttle body.

Chris said he has to run out to pick up a car with a broken tranny using a flatbed, so not sure what will be done on my car today. I asked him to please get everything done that can be done so the car can be started up next week. We're BOTH just really tired of all this by now.

In any event, Connie and I have some errands to run today, so I'm not planning on going out to the shop.

Was out to see Chris today. Sure was nice to see your car with wheels and a motor. LME shipped out my motor yesterday. The end is nearing for me too Rich.

Yeah, man. Good to hear that your motor is on the way. Keeping a car stock doesn't sound all that bad of a plan now, eh?

I'm hoping I'll be able to hear mine come to life this up coming week. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on this (Does anyone doubt I have been patient enough with this?), but it's beginning to wear on both Connie and myself. We've had most of our lives on hold because of this for the past nearly 8 months. This has got to come to an end real soon. Enough is enough....

I can only imagine Rich. When I eventually do an engine swap in mine, I'll make sure my wife is good and prepared for the car to be gone for quite some time. Although, I doubt mine will be anywhere near involved as yours is. Good luck on hearing her run next week!

If I had mine to do over again it sure wouldn't be done at Xtreme Motorsports!!!!!

Perhaps so, but that sort of discussion is not appropriate within this thread, please. That is for the Board of Inquiry forum. However, please note the new rule that your full name must be provided to post there. There will be no more anonymous posting allowed in that forum.

Today I had the air conditioning unit in the house replaced, so that took up the entire day and I could not run out to Chris's place.

I tried calling his cell number twice, leaving voice mails, and emailed once to try to find out the status of my car and what has been done, with the hope that perhaps the car can get started up for the first time on Tuesday. Unfortunately I didn't hear anything from Chris the entire day, so I am pretty much in the dark as to where things sit at the moment.

Hopefully I will hear back from him on Tuesday....

Hi Rich,

Chris wasn't at the shop yesterday. The truck with my motor tried to deliver it but the shop was closed. I had to call the trucking office and see if they would deliver it today.I plan on being there at 10am today.Chris better show up.

Just got off the phone from talking with Chris. He said he has been working nonstop all weekend. He was at the shop waiting for Mike's engine to be delivered and then he had to leave to take care of some personal business that couldn't wait. So he suggested that tomorrow (Wednesday) would be better for me to stop by. According to an email I got from him, he got quite a bit of the small stuff done.

Another snag he mentioned is that the hook hits the catchcan that he got from RevXtreme for me. Not sure what is up with that.....

Anyway, he says we should be in a position to start up the engine for the first time on Thursday.

Oh yeah, got a phone call from Josh at RevXtreme to tell me (via a message relayed from Connie) that the new throttle body should show up at Chris's on Thursday.

Don't know what the status is of the headers that got damaged in transit..... :shrug01:

Sigh........

I take it she didn't get fired up today. I figure you'll be posting on the forum as soon as you get home from the shop...or steal chris' computer to logon and post that she lives again. Good luck on Friday!!!!!

Captain's Log - Stardate Wednesday, 06/16/2010

I went out to the shop on Wednesday, and both Chis and Justin were working on my car. Justin was rechecking the torque on all the bolts. Chris was doing some stuff with the wiring and other odds and ends. Got the new tunnel plate put into place...

Still lots to do, but mostly all little stuff.

Captain's Log - Stardate Thursday, 06/17/2010

Both Connie and I went out to the shop early afternoon. Chris was working on the wiring again. Come to find out that the new starter he had gotten for me when this install all first started was damaged in the box. The solenoid was cracked on the end and had the terminals bent. Damn these little snags, anyway....

Hoping to have the startup on Friday, but I'm really not holding my breath.

Oh yeah, yesterday Chris had to take the valve covers to have bungs welded into them for the catch cans. That wasn't finished today so hopefully tomorrow....

The throttle body was supposed to show up today, but Chris didn't say anything about it, and I forgot to ask...

Captain's Log - Stardate Friday, 06/18/2010

Chris called early this morning, heck before I was even out of bed, to tell me he was unsuccessful finding either a starter of solenoid for my car locally. So he had to order one, which won't be in till Monday. :banghead:

He was going to check on the valve covers, but I haven't heard back from him.

And again, I forgot to ask about the throttle body....

This is evidently as per Tracy who designed the catchcan.... :shrug01:

Your valve covers are not OEM and therefor have no outlets in the valve cover for venting to the catch can...and since you have the dual can design it would be best to pull crankcase vapors from both the valley cover & the drivers side rear of the valve cover as your filtered crankcase make up air comes from the filtered breather on the pass side front in the oil fill.

Thanks Tracy. I'm not doubting your word at all, I just wish this had been taken care of before now when those valve covers were just sitting in a back room for months. There is also the issue that the hood was (is?) hitting the top of the catchcan, so that needs to be modified as well. Yeah, nothing major, but I feel like I'm about to be eaten alive with nagging little piranha problems like this.... :ack2:
