C5 Little rubber bumpers?

I am so a newby to the much more sophisticated C5 (particulary the Z06) but have observed something that I consider unusual.

When I pop the trunk on my 03 it doesn't really open up much. Meaning you have to get a hold of a corner to raise the truck. When I look closely I see a hole on the hinge on each side that appears to correspond to a "stop". My guess is that a rubber bumper is supposed to be in each hole that mates to the "stop" on each lower hinge plate. I would think that such a bumper would be both a damper and an aid to opening the trunk.

Would you guys that own C5 hardtops please take a look at yours' and let me know what you have.

I could post picture is necessary but I'm not near as talented at doing that.:rofl1:

From what I remember of my C5Z, it was the same way. I had to try to get my finger underneath one of the corners to actually pry the trunk lid open.

As for the bumpers you mention, sorry, I can't eyeball them now to take a look.

Lubricate all hinges and locking mechanism/latch will help the trunk lid open more.

I don't have a C5 but I can't understand why the trunk doesn't open enough and that you might need an after market product to do what the trunk should do on its own? What's up with that? Good luck with the fix.

Hey Ken,

Welcome to the world of Corvette trunks! This is a minor issue that all C5 owners have at some point. My '01 vert is more problematic than my '04 Z06. And when I say problematic, I just mean that it does not pop up quite as far as the Z trunk lid. As someone else mentioned, put a little lube on the hinges and if all else fails, just close either door after popping the trunk. The air inside the car will travel the path of least resistance and will actually open the trunk lid a little more.

I hope this helps!

Actually I had forgotten that little trick. Been too long since I've had my car, I guess....

Bought one and it helps some...... Am still looking toward the rubber bumper thing. It's so pathetic when I find myself trying to be smater then a trunk.:ack2:

You would think the GM engineers would have been able to figure out something that works. But then again, if I remember correctly, the Z06 actually had it's roots in the FRC model, which was supposed to be a stripped down cheap version of the Corvette. So maybe that's why we are seeing this... :shrug01:
