Winds actually seem calmer now than they did this morning, with a light drizzle off an on. Connie and I spent most of the day putting bolts in holes in beams in the roof of the garage that the builders neglected to put in. I asked them why they were only putting two bolts in when there were 4 holes holding the beams together, and they said that was all they needed. Well, I've had bolts in one of the cabinets planning to do that myself, and decided maybe strengthening up the roof of the garage would be a real good thing to do today. Plus it took our minds off of the approaching storm for a few hours. I figure four holding points per joint HAS to be better than two. Had to move vehicles out of the way for each section as I climbed up on the 12 ft ladder while Connie helped keep it steady for me.
Been meaning to do that for a few years now and decided this storm coming was excellent incentive to do it NOW. I actually just went over to the garage to find a pair of work gloves to bring over to the house and happened to stare up at the ceiling of the garage wondering if any of the tall pine trees nearby might get their tops snapped off and fall on that roof. Last year two trees on the north side of the garage did snap off and fall towards the garage during hurricane Hermine but they were too far away to impact it. That might have been a warning shot for me to heed.
But it is done now.
