St. Pete Grand Prix

Who all is going Saturday? I'll be hanging out in Turn 10 for the post part with some friend from the 12 hrs of Sebring. I'll be sporting a Michelin Podium Hat! :dancer01: If I don't see ya, enjoy the race. :peelout 1:

I plan on attending, but I am not sure what part of the track I will be at. If I get to turn 10 I will look for someone wearing the cap you described. I usually wear a Corvette Racing cap. :wavey:

I think I will skip it in silent protest for the lack of Corvette Corral space. I feel that if they can't have a Corvette Corral I shouldn't spend the money to wander around aimlessly. I will watch it for free on TV.

be there Sunday...most likely in the rain LOL

You do know that the Corvettes will be racing on Saturday right? :dancer01:

Great qualifying season today. Olivier just killed it setting a new GT1 course record. Johnny O was hot on his tail, but just couldn't match it. If you go tomorrow, it sounds like turn one could be a blast. People are just flying through it and, what the announcers where call it, rallying through the corner. Should be some crazy action there.

Too bad it won't hurt GM, just the race and the drivers. :banghead: Now if we all showed up flying corvette flags and waving them proudly...that'd have a better chance of bringing back the coral. I'm sure enough people will complain it'll be back next year. I'll certainly be talking to a few people. :toetap05:

They didn't read our emails, so I don't think they are listening when we ask for a Corvette Corral or watching when we carry our flags.

I was hoping for a Corvett Corral this year, If they don't think we should have a tent and set-up then I don't think it's worth my time or money.

I've never been a fan of St Pete's politics and the Mayors office. If the race fails so be it (although I doubt it will). I supported the 12 hours of Sebring race a few weeks ago, and will most likely be at Road Atlanta October 4th. I will support the races that support the Corvette crowd with a gathering spot corral (within reason for travel as I would love to go to every race on the schedule but Atlanta and Sebring are the closest to where I live). I have the DVR set up to record the race for free (since I am still a huge Corvette Racing fan) and I will be working on the house honey do list most of the day.

No biggie, just my .02 cents

I too hope to make Road Atlanta. I also agree about the St. Pete politics. It was a great race though. Good layout, good entertainment and some good racing. Just wish they had General Admission stands. Wasn't impressed with the IRL cars at all.

I really do not believe that ST Pete politics had any thing to do with the corral. That was a GM decision. There s no corral at Long Beach, and that race has been around a long time. However ALMS only started at these two event last year.

Boycotting the St Pete race will not bring back the corral. I ran into people that attended last years corral and we talked about these issue. I believe if the different clubs in the area get together it might have a little more effect the individuals calling Roc at the NCM. It needs to go to those that are in charge of the marketing.

If you did not attend the race yesterday you missed some good racing. I enjoyed the race completely. I love street racing venues.

For those that were unable to attend the ALMS race here are a few pictures of the race and in the paddocks. Most of the pictures are of the Corvette Racing Team but I also have a few of the LG Motorsports GT2 entry.

I didn't see any hospitality tents on the parking garage from the TV shots I saw like there were last year. I don't think GM is the only one who didn't do a "corral" this year.

I didn't see any Coral's at all. I don't think they had any room for them at all. The top of the parking garage was reserved for something, but I didn't see what. There was a HUGE tent up there. Audi probably rented out the whole stinking thing.
