What gas do you suggest for a C5?

I tend to go to the big name dealers. Shell, Amoco(BP), Sunoco (when I can find it). I've heard that the no-name bargain brand stations buy whatever they can at the best price they can, so quality could be "iffy". And I always use the 93 octane stuff.

Yep, me too. I use 93 octane as I think the absolute best performance can be obtained from premium. I also try and use "Top Tier" fuels. Gas is purchased by the oil companies on an open market. Refining and the additives are what make gasoline "better". I am also a big believer in adding "Techron", a fuel additive, about every six months, whether I need it or not. Good stuff. It can be purchased at Chevron stations, automotive supply store like "Advance Auto", or Walmart.

I try to get to a Chevron station, but will use Mobil or BP(Amoco). The Z seems to perform very nicely on Amoco.

Welcome to the forum, BTW!!:wavey: ...................Tom

I prefer Chevron when it's available. With their Techron additive I don't have the fuel quantity gage issues I do with other brands. Also, at least around here, Shell is always higher priced than everyone else. I won't forget that they took advantage after the last hurricane to come through here, selling reg. for almost $4 a gal.:NoNo:

Was it a company policy (Shell) or was it something the local dealers took upon themselves?

Excellent advice from exile.
Replacing the 2 fuel senders in the 2 gas tanks on a C5 (without a warranty)
can be very expensive. !

I can't answer that. If it was local, I hope those folks realize that it reflects badly on them and Shell in general. I do know that the Shell stations around here are always about .10/gal more than everyone else. Anyone else find that to be true of the Shell stations in their area?

Actually the prices at the Shell stations in Tallahassee vary quite a bit. The closer to route 10 they are, the more expensive the gasoline.

I stay away from Citgo at all costs. The company is owned by a (? Venezuelan ?) dictator that has been quoted by MSNBC as recently saying that he will do what he can to take the American superpower down to it's knees in front of the world.:reddevil:

I'll try to find the story again and post a link.

we only use sunoco premium. and if u want to buy it sunoco also offers a 104 octane race fuel..last i checked it was lik 5$ a gallon.

In my early days with my '66 GTO Sunoco 260 is all I would use in it. Now that was some GOOOOD stuff.

For the '69 big block, I primarily use Sunoco and if that is not available, then Amoco. Our '01 seems to be a little less picky on brands and runs well on most premium fuels. But I try to stay with a major supplier where ever possible.

Hugo Chavez is elected. And the country of Venezuela does own Citgo. They have since the mid '90's. I'll include a link to Snopes about him. Recently, there were two emails floating around about Citgo. If you don't like Bush then buy at Citgo, if you do, then don't buy at Citgo.

Chavez has close ties with Cuba and Bush hates that. Chavez recently said he would sell his American jets (I think F-16's) to Iran because the US would not supply them with upgrades. He's even tried to buy planes from other countries. If they had any US parts in them, Bush blocked the deal. He's said he'll just buy new ones from China or Russia.

He will also be providing discounted heating oil to London's poor this year. I believe he also gave away heating oil to some poor in the US last year.

I am just passing along a little info. I don't wish to engage in any political debates with anyone. I'm sure there are bad stories as well, these are just the ones that stood out to me recently.

Sorry to drift from your question. I usually stick with Chevron. The techron helps. There is a Shell by me that sells discounted 93 octane on Wednesdays I believe.

I was using Mobil Prem. but moved south and no Mobil :shrug01: close so now it's Chevron With Techron 93 Prem. plus i throw in some 104 booster:thumbsup: every once in a while.:hehehe:

I was very big on Amoco, but had fuel gauge issues. Swapped to Chevron 2 years ago and no more problems.

Anywhere, at least in Palm Beach County, you go you will find that Shell (which I use) is always the most expensive gas. In addition a lot of Shell stations show a differential of $.26 to $.28 between the regular and the premium.:toetap05:

Heck, I dunno, but after seeing the latest prices, those rice-mobiles that run on two rabid chipmunks in a squirrel cage are looking better and better to me... :ack2:

We have a trip planned to Maryland next month and I hate to think what the price tag is going to be on just getting there and back.
