2007 C-6 Automatic w/paddle shift

I have a 2007 C-6 with the automatic/paddle shift transmission. I was always told that the car will start from 2nd gear whether in drive or in the "Sport" mode. In order to accelerate from 1st gear, you need to have the trans in "Sport" and down shift via the paddle into 1st gear. I have been under the impression that in "Drive" mode it also started from the second gear, but when counting the number of shifts I felt, the numbers did not match. I have attributed my "mis-count" of shifts to my 'old age' and my desire to out accelerate that little old lady in her Nash Rambler.....:hehehe: In the most recent (but futuristic-March 2008) edition of Corvette Magazine, a letter to the editor states that when in "Sport" mode, if you want to start from 1st gear, you have to shift down into it, otherwise it will default to second gear always. Yet, when in drive (and of course this does not show in the onboard display) the trans will always default to 1st gear and start from there every time.

So which is it? Anyone out there with the right and correct answer? Thanks fellows.

I too have the same setup on my 07. Drive does seem to start in 1st gear and Sport does default to 2nd gear unless you downshift. Why? :shrug01::shrug01:

You do know that for $99 you can have an A6 tranny tune put in that you won't believe the improvement!

On why it defaults to 2nd gear start & haven't a clue....

My first guess would be a designed form of torque management. Starting off in second gear would certainly keep some stress off of the drive train if someone is engaging in some hotrodding with their C6. :shrug01:

And what exactly is that....???

Its a bad ass tune haha. I noticed a big difference from when i was racing a car to their shop, to racing a car after leaving the shop and wow. when your cruising in drive mode, just a blip of the gas will bring it down to the correct gear to accelerate. oooor if you want the scare the shit out of the opponent effect, just slam the gas down, listen to the motor scream and hang on for the hook an throw effect.

Idk if it was the tune or not, but the paddle shifting seems to work faster, instead of a hesitant shift.
