C6 2007 C-6 Front Tires

After some 12,900 miles, the Goodyear Eagles in the front of my vette are just about gone. I have been looking at replacement tires for the front (the back still have a few thousand miles left on them), and was quoted some $700 for two Bridgestone High Performance tires. These are the correct size and are run-flats.

Has anybody had any experience with the Bridgestones? Or, does anybody has any other reccomendation.

Thanks,

Rene

Are you set on having run flats?

If not I highly recommend BFG KDW2's. Best all around street tire I have ever used. I think I paid 170 a tire last year for the fronts and 340 a piece in the rear(295 series). Ive put around 12k miles on them and they still look brand new. Theyve been put through hard rain(ask Tracy he fixed my ecm from water dmg lol) and good ole fl death heat, and they have never let me down.

Bridgestone's are quality tires. But then so are Firestone and Goodyear. So are General and Cooper tires.

You should stay with the same manufacturer as your rear tires, same compound.

JB.

Yeah, I've heard that. Something about having different brand tires on the front than on the rear can cause handling problems. But I'm not sure if this is in reference to trying to mix runflats with non-runflats. I can see where that would cause problems.

I agree with having same brand front and rear. The rear ones in my vette will be coming off in a month or so. Just can't handle the cost of mounting all four tires at the same time.

As far as the run-flats, well, I have searched but not found a spare tire in my trunk yet...:lmao: Using a can of "tire inflator" would permanently damage the tire pressure sensor, soooooo....

I guess my major concern is going from the traditional Goodyears to Bridgestone (formerly Firestone).

AAA platinum service is cheaper then run flats lol.

Im running 3 KDWs and a stok GY RF rubber up front(waiting on new wheels to get finished powder coated). Theres no handling difference that ive noticed from mixing tires.

It all boils down to spending mucho money to drive 100 extra miles(and according to GY if you drive close to the max mileage theres no promise in tire repair so youd have to pay for another tire).

My boss replaced his F1 supercars couple months ago, it was 1400 bucks to replace the 4 tires. In comparison I spent 900 bucks, and even he prefers the traction of my tires. But if you ant stock front rubbers, as mentioned in another thread, people on corvetteforum are always selling stock GY rubbers usually two for the price of one.

Isn't 12,900 miles too soon for the front tires to need replacement? :shrug01:

The car was shipped form Bowling Green, KY to Daytona, FL, where someone put 160 in it. Going around that track at a high speed, even for a hundred miles could have started excessive early wear. I can only guess.

Hey LS2Powa, I noticed above that you are running 295's on your rears. I too just turned 12K miles on my F1 Runflat Supercar tires and they are bald. I need tires and am shopping around too. I was thinking about going 295 35 19 on the rears. Is the diameter of that tire any smaller than the 285's? Can you notice a difference looking at them? How much wider are they over the 285's? Still on the fence about going back to runflats or not. I was looking at the Michelin's but they are $525 each for the rears on Tire Rack. Guess I should take a closer look at the KDW's too... Do you keep a small compressor in the car just in case???

After knowing I would need tires...

I patiently waited for 5 months for all the new tires I need on EBay. Instead of paying anywhere from 350 to 450 a piece, I ended up paying the average of 125 a pop for brand new tires (still had the full paint band on the tread).

Go to EBay!!!

Spine the KDW2s are about the same really. They stil sit inside the fenders on my 19x11 wheel.

I paid 345 for my 295s, and 180ish for my fronts of the stock 245s. Ive seen them on tirerack dropping to 300 for a rears.

I dont keep a compressor with me, thats why I invested in AAA platinum or whatever the 100mile tow policy is. In the past year ive never had to use it for a blown tire. If Tracy from RevXtreme can see this he can chime in on how new the tires still look after 12k+ miles, and couple track runs. I still have the sidewall nubbies on all of them.

Also if you start looking fr tires on ebay, make sure you get the build year code. My tires from tirerack were within the current production year, some of those tires on ebay could be a couple production years behind. Im sure the video is stil on this forum somewhere about aged tires and their codes.

LS2 Powa, Will the 295/35/19 fit on the stock 10" rim? Do you think I should stick with the stock 285's or go up one size to the 295's? The tread pattern on the KW2's is funky, how is the ride??? Any experience with the Nitto Invos?

Havent had experience with invos, but the KDWs are a night an day difference over the stock runcraps. They handle real well in any condition, Ive gone over the skyway in pouring down rain doin 70+ and never felt a bit of traction loss.

295s will fit fine on the 19x10 fine.
