• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

This maybe a good idea. Kind of a fresh start perspective.

I'm going to call you Mickey if that's OK? Rich did start a new thread in the BOI that I think he needs so that he can 'vent' and also tie everyone and their mods together. They all have a few things in common.

Hopefully the new shop gets this thing done for him and he won't need another thread to document that.

Aaron called me this afternoon and said my car was up on his lift and he was looking it over. He needs an O2 sensor that was apparently taken out when Chris put in his wideband sensor, which is still installed. I have one that I picked off the parts table. But he said he also needs an O2 extension cable (maybe two, I don't remember), which I don't have. I saw some cables on the table that I didn't recognize, but I didn't want to take them in case they belonged to someone else. Parts were just scattered everywhere in the shop, and people had to just guess at what belonged to them. My wheel well panels were sitting over on my old hood insulator on the other side of the building. The parts rooms are an absolute mess. Nothing is labeled.

My old engine (LS6) is still at the shop. Chris said I could sell it if I wanted to. Have a few nibbles, but nothing firm. Just trying to get the $1,700 I have into it. It's basically just the short block and heads, since most of the stuff needed for my new engine was scavenged off of it. Not sure where the intake manifold went off to, as I didn't need that for the new engine.

Anyway, if Aaron can get the O2 sensor problem straightened out, he wants to start tuning on the car tomorrow early. If he can't find a sensor laying about, I'll be running up there early to take the one I have out there. Not sure what to do about the extension(s) though, as getting back into the shop in Blountstown will be problematical now.

Well the guy from Orlando who is actually doing the tuning is there now, so waiting till Monday might be a problem. Thinking about it, I may have picked up the O2 sensor when I pulled the car out on Friday, which would mean it will be in a box in the trunk of the car right now.

Maybe Aaron can figure a way around the sensor extensions....

You can use generic o2 sensor wires and splice them into your good sensor wires, but it's kind of ghetto and can cause signal issues if not secured properly.

Honestly I would wait till you got true o2 extensions. I get mine from MarylandSpeed.com not sure what their pricing is at the moment, but they ship fast.

Well Rich you can come out Monday when Chris is going to meet me.That's if he shows up.

Mike, I may have to do that. I remember seeing a rubber boot on that table that is used to cover a relay for the STS turbos that I probably should get. Hopefully Aaron can jury rig the extension cables for the O2 sensors till I can get the real ones to him.

Man, I REALLY didn't want to have to walk into that shop in Blountstown again....

Anyway, please let me know what time you will be going out there so I know the shop will be opened up.

Rich I plan on getting to the shop about 10:30 om Mon.I'll text Chris tomorrow and let him know. John Arnald or the new guy who will be using the shop should be there.Just in case I'll stop at Burger King and bring something to eat if we have to wait.

Wish I had had the forethought to get the number for the new guy coming in there. If I knew he was going to be out there today, I would swing by to pick up that stuff before heading up to Thomasville.

O2 extension cable

Rich, Kenny and I would be more than glad to loan you ours if needed. I could remove them tonight if it will help. Just let me know. Neal

Thanks Neal, but Aaron made up some at his shop, so that's good to go.

I did find out today that I don't have the special socket to remove the locking wheel lug nut on each wheel, so I have to find that item. No telling where that will be at.... :banghead:

Was out at South Georgia Corvette this morning till about 1pm and found minor problems. Loose hardware was the biggest thing. Radiator fan shroud is just flapping in the breeze. And one of the bolts on the alternator bracket is sticking out about a quarter inch, and had obviously not been tightened down. We're hoping the bracket is just wedged against it and whoever put it in didn't cross thread it.

Jim Smith was working on the tuning part. Had to positively identify what fuel injectors were in the engine, as at this point no one wants to take anything for granted.

I left around 1pm just because I didn't really like looking at my car being worked on yet again. I guess I'm getting a pavlovian response now when I see that, as it just makes me sick to my stomach. Aaron said they would likely be getting the car running pretty well by late this afternoon, but I just didn't want to hang around any longer. I will probably run by there tomorrow if I don't have to run out to Blountstown to get the odds and ends still out there. It's about a 4.5 hour round trip to go from home to Blountstown to Thomasville and then back home again. I hate to even think how much money I have spent on gasoline just running to the shop for my car.....

Rich, the guy that works on my Vette has something like a socket that he uses to remove wheel locks. Do you want me to call him and see what it is?

Sure. But I wouldn't think it would be all that easy to get something that could foil the wheel locks. Otherwise there is no sense in having them. But stranger things have happened, I guess. Thanks...

I just tried calling John Arnold about getting into the shop again but apparently he's a very popular guy now with all this going on. His mailbox is full.

Yeah, kind of pricey, but if I can't find the socket at Chris's ex-shop, I'll have no choice but to buy one. Hopefully it's either on the roll around cart or on the table where my parts were generally laid out.

Thanks for checking into this for me.

I just talked to John and he said he found an odd looking socket near where my car was, so it sounds like what I am looking for. I'm running out there tomorrow morning to pick it up. Hopefully there isn't more than one of those things out there. If there is, I'm taking them all and bringing back which ever one(s) don't fit my car.

Hey, you're welcome. I have no idea what the cost is but judging from your post it must be expensive.

Rich get thst billing label off the roof of my car and see if its yours. The truck and trailor i had set up just backed out so my car may end up out in the parking lot.

I believe you said that was just for the engine. I'm not concerned with that as I know I have the engine I paid for. I was actually there when it was delivered. At least I think so. This is all starting to run together in my mind. I'm surprised I haven't completely lost my noodles by now over this...

Talk to John, I doubt he would push you car out into the parking lot. He told me my old LS6 can stay where it is at till I decide what to do with it. He seems real reasonable to deal with.
