427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

I talked to Chris on the phone this morning and he said my car will be done tomorrow (Friday).

I don't think it went all that well at Chris's shop on Thursday. Apparently one of the new valve covers, which are necessary to clear the higher lifting valves on the heads, isn't clearing the alternator bracket on the driver's side. So Chris has to pull all that stuff back off of the front of the engine in order to grind some clearance on the bracket. I could tell he was pretty pissed about that. Not that I'm feeling all that ducky about it myself, mind you. Been far too many things that have had to be custom modified just to play together on this project. Then there is another issue with the spark plug wires not being long enough, now that the coils are mounted further away from the plugs on those taller valve covers. :banghead: So this is just great ( :nonod: ). Now when I need to just replace my spark plug wires, it's going to be a custom job just to do that. :banghead: I will have to MAKE the new spark plug wires.

Well, all things considered, what are the chances that the car will (if?) get started up on Friday and there not be something wrong? A leak somewhere, funny noise from some place that isn't funny, smoke and flames, or something else that will be par for the course?

You know, I laughed when Connie said I would be lucky to get my car back by my birthday. That was back in January. Well, my birthday is now less than three weeks away. :crazy03:

So if it ISN'T done by Friday night, is it time for me to just throw in the towel at the 1 yard line and flatbed the car back home? I did tell Chris this past weekend that this was the deadline. :toetap05:

Rick, I have a set of MSD wires that are cut to fit for a LS engine, I was going to do a coil relocate and just never got to it. Still in the box, they are yours if you want them.

Hi Rich:
I been following this thread for a long time...You are a better man then me in patience!...Things sometimes go nuts, especially will building anything...Hang in there, your near the finish line...You have made it this far, so give it the time to get done...:yesnod:

Thanks Kenny. But the problem is that the wires need to be LONGER than stock since the coils are now further away from the spark plugs. So wires cut to stock length won't help.

I talked to Chris this morning and he was unable to get the wires needed. He's going to look into relocating the coils so he can use stock wires. But it really doesn't look good at all for it to be done today.

Give it till Tuesday Rich. That's plenty of time to fix the issues. In the meantime talk to the other builders on this site and I'm sure they can tell you what to do about wires. I personally don't like the idea of relocating the coils.

The ones I have are the long ones, there are the ones used for coil relocates, you have to put the coil end on yourself.

Rich, I think the wires Kenny is talking about are longer than stock and you cut and make up one end for relocating the coils.

Thanks guys. Maybe this will save the day. I asked Chris to give you a call, as I'm not sure what all he needs to do this.

Thanks again!

Hey Rich, I think the Corvette Gods answered.

Aren't Corvette people great or what???

Yeah... That was really nice of Kenny to offer those wires to get me out of this bind.

Thanks again Kenny!

Chris called me, I have left them where he can pick them up at anytime. I hope this gets you going Rich.
