427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

It appears that the problem was caused by one or more ignition wires not seating properly in the coils. Aaron wound up putting on a new set of wires.

He said that Jim Smith will be up to continue the tuning Tuesday or Wednesday.

Well, the latest is that Jim Smith is at Aaron's and they are chasing down a 1514 error. From what I understand, this is an error flagged when the amount of air coming through the MAF doesn't agree with the predicted amounts indicated in a table in the computer. I think the purpose of it is to detect a failure at the throttle body and prevent the engine from running away if the TB blade goes full open.

I was hoping to get out to Aaron's shop today and perhaps video the last stages of the tuning on the dyno, but that doesn't look likely....... :banghead:

Hmm... Well why is this showing up NOW, and not when the previous tuning sessions were taking place?

Maybe because you finally have all the engine right. No extra parts in the cylinders. No oil leaks. Good spark. No compression leaking. Turbos are right. I think that may mean that finally they have a tunable engine.

Well, it gets better.....

Talked to Aaron this afternoon and he says he thinks the computer gave up the ghost. He's got a new one coming in tomorrow. I had to hang up the phone. I was about ready to start screaming.

This is just frickin' unbelievable.....

Well, looks like yet another week that I had my hopes up that my car would be finished will be closing without that taking place.

What would you all do in my shoes at this point?

At this point i guess you need to stick it out. I have seen several big projects get pushed back for one reason or the other. It is always something at the last minute that screws things up. I can't imagine what you are going through but i hope it gets better.

I would be glad it was Aaron and Jim working on my car and knowing that I can trust them. You are almost there and I would remember that they didn't cause my problems. I hope you and Connie have a Happy Easter and all turns out ok. Neal

Yeah, I know.... Aaron and Jim are good, competent people. But it appears that my car is now cursed.

It just seems like Murphy's Law is going into overtime with my car. There is going to have to be a point where there is just no sense throwing more time and money into it. The past 18 months of mine and Connie's lives have been completely screwed up by that car and we have delayed doing the travelling we had planned on doing when we retired. I don't know how many times I have told Connie that we need to hang around here because the car should be done this week or next, and I need to be here to bring it home. The car HAS to be done real soon or I have no choice but to cut it loose and get on with our lives.

It's been 18 months. No one can deny that this is just downright absolutely frickin' ridiculous now......

I do not believe your car is cursed, nor do I believe in Murphy's Law. I DO believe that you are dealing with either incompetence by the previous shop, or a clear lack of concern for their customers. Possibly both!

The one thing I would not do, if I was in your shoes, is postpone anything with your wife. After 18 months, what difference does it make if the car is completed during the week that you are away enjoying yourself. It will be there when you return. You have your other Z06 to enjoy while this is one is being sorted out. Let's hope that the new shop finds everything before you get it back. But I would plan for it to go back at least once. Not because it is cursed, because the new shop has no clue exactly what the original shop did to the build.

Plan that trip and go enjoy yourselves and to hell with the car until you get back.

Just my opinion.

Rich

I'd be tempted to put a Ford Motorsports sticker on it and tell the car when you start acting like a Chevrolet I'll take the sticker off. :shrug01: but I don't know if reverse phycology works on cars but I guess it wouldn't hurt.
