700r4 shifting into OD

My newly installed, used 700r4 (from a 1990'ish GMC truck) seems to shift ito over drive too soon. Driving around 40 mph or so, it seems to want to shift into and out of over drive, instead of iether one or the other. Is this a TV cable adjustment? If so, which direction; further out, or further back in? Thanks - kip

TV cable adjustment is critical and the wrong adjustment can damage the trans in no time. You really need a good 700R4 tech to help you in person.

If you come to the shop we will do it for free.

Thanks for the offer. I live a long way from where you are however. I have read and re-read the instructions for setting the tv cable; which I basically intrepet to be - press in the slider button, manually open the throttle to wide open, and allow the slider to move forward as it needs to. The problem here is that the slider always moves completely forward, leaving slack in the cable when the throttle returns to idle. I have it set at this time, but of course I could be on thin ice here also, if its not right.... thanks - kip
