9-11 operator (this is pathetic)

Today while travelling north on 2-75 from the I-4 interchange, I observed the immediate aftermath of a pretty serious crash in the South bound lane of the interstate between MLK & Hillsborough Ave.

The smoke from the crash hadn't even cleared and I saw the driver of the striking vehicle run from the car to the other vehicle now on the shoulder.

The striking vehicle was pretty well totalled from the firewall forward.

Here's where it gets pathetically funny...

Call to 9-11 disptacher:

9-11 whats the nature of your emergency?

Me: there's been a crash in the center lane of I-275, southbound just north of MLK (this is in the CITY OF TAMPA by the way;) ).

9-11- I'll get FHP for you:rofl1::rolleyes:

I won't print the obscenity I uttered when she said that, but suffice to say she heard it and responded with: "it's on the interstate sir:rolleyes:":lmao:
(I guess it's ok for the city to write tickets on the interstate but lets not do any other police work there?)

Anyway, a ring later FHP is on the line.

Florida Highway Patrol how can I help you?

Me: There's been a crash on I-275 southbound.
At least 2 vehicles, one venicle is disabled in the CENTER LANE with FIRE in the engine compartment. You might want to dispatch Tampa Fire/Rescue with the Trooper. This is approximately 1/4 mile south of Hillsborough Ave.
Went on to advise the FHP dispatcher that there did not appear to be anyone trapped in either vehicle (had that been the case, someone else would have had to make this call), but again, the striking vehicle was disabled in the CENTER LANE with "FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT."

FHP- Can you describe the vehicle?:lmao::rofl1::lmao::rofl1::lmao::rofl1:

(I though I was going to lose it:rofl1::rofl1:)

Me (trying not to laugh at the question): Sure. It'll be the silver one on FIRE in the center lane!:rofl1:

What the F**k??? Would you like fries with that? Paper or plastic? Good God! What are we hiring now days?:rofl1::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Then she wanted my name and phone number...so I gave it to her.....kept waiting for the distant KaBoom!

Good ole operators. Last time i was in a accident where i wasnt hospitalized, i had a county cop come and check everything out, but fhp had to come assess the damage and write the ticket. What was shitty was it was pouring down rain and had to wait 2.5hrs for a fhp to come, the local guy took off after making sure everything was ok, and no vehicles were blocking traffic.

Sound like a typical response from most government agencies. The only thing they are really good at is taking our money.

I'm sure you visit LEO Affairs. Agency and 9-11 dispatchers, as they were when I was a deputy, still seem to be a major source of problems.

I've visited LEO affairs probably a TOTAL of 4 times since it's beginning. I can't stand all the bickering, whining and childish attitudes.

If I wanted that, I'd just go back over to CF:rofl1:

The this agency is better than that agency attitudes, the I want, I want, I want, and we don't have this and that...blah blah blah...is an embarrasment:thumbsdown:

I'm astonished at some of the stuff that's put out there in the public eye:(

It's turned into a website for whiners:( I'd hoped it would be more technically oriented and provide something useful other than a place t vent. sadly, the last time I was there, that was not the case. I never went back. The redundant "Starman" theme (sounds like a comic charcter doesn't it?:rofl1:) was getting old.....

But you're right:thumbsup:It always has and always will be a problem. We used to have a dispatcher ride along program.
Only a few took advantage of it but of those that did, we saw a 100% improvement in communications and information transfer over those that didn't:thumbsup:
It gave them a much better idea what we really needed in the field.

Selection and training is key:thumbsup: Another problem is a lack of common sense and a fear in some cases of varying from the "script."

Describe the car??? Come on! It's the one on fire in the middle of the interstate:lmao:

It's an unfortunate accident but I'm still laughing about the "description of the vehicle"
