A different approach to the C3

That's pretty radical. The sound of the Cummins Diesel just doesn't go with the Corvette body though, it's like, what's wrong with this picture! I'll bet it's fun to drive!

Honestly, it just amazes my how diesel engines are apparently exempt from environmental laws. Look at the smoke cloud that sucker generates! Personally I just can't stand the smell and hate to even drive near a diesel powered vehicle. It would be a cold day in hell indeed before I would ever own one myself.

Gotta agree with Rich. It's an interesting project but not for me, especially in a 'vette. I've never been a big fan of diesels.:nonod:

They got the Injectors and Fuel Pressure jacked way up so she will sh*t it and get it!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
That car is pulling Hard down the strip!!

I can appreciate what it took to make the swap but WTF was he thinking? That is hideous! Half of what makes a Vette (or any other hot rod for that matter) appealing is the engine sound. The whumpa whumpa whumpa of a cammed engine is sweeeet and now his sounds like a garbage truck! Plus 99% of the world would not know that is a diesel and would wonder why that Vette is spewing out all that black smoke on his ride home. Most people would laugh thinking he blew a gasket in the engine or something like that.

To each their own I guess..... :banghead:

Now that's unique and I sorta' like it in an odd way :hehehe: Reminds me of a few F-250's we have around here.

:rofl1:Then you sure as hell ain't gonna like my next ride:lmao:

BTW Rich, they're not exempt. They have thier own laws to abide by and they get more and more stringent as the years go by.

There's probably more chit on a diesel in the way of environmental BS than you have on a gasser:thumbsdown::ack2:

Take a look around at the newer diesels. Very few that are not tampered with, spew the dreaded "black smoke" any more. The ones you see are usually modified.

As with any car, when you mod the emissions systems you get more HP and/or torque.

No different than anything else.

:rofl1:I agree. I saw it and went WTF????

As I mentioned in the intro, the vette looks beaten. Certainly not a pristine example of a vette.

As for the "sound" though, I have to differ with you.

Did you happen to catch that TURBO spooling up?;)

a maggie, an ATI or a a turbo....all are music to a performance enthusiasts ears:thumbsup:

That old school thump thump is cool, but usually not as efficient or productive as a power added ride:thumbsup:

:rofl1:Amen to that!

Just thought it was "different." Apparently, I was right:lmao:

Sound allright, and it would be fun to put a nice black cloud on tailriders but Im gonna keep the 454 in my C3:hehehe:

Maybe so, but I can't recall having to hold my breath when driving behind a gasoline powered vehicle like I do when behind a diesel. That exhaust crap just makes my eyes water. Certainly can't be all that good to be getting into my lungs, either. :nonod: So tell me, what exactly IS the composition of all that black smoke?

Guaran-damn-TEE you that I wouldn't say squat to ANYBODY if that guy trashed
me stoplite - to - stoplite ! I might even move outta state :ack2:! Wouldn't look so good
driving a blue Vette with a beet red face.......:lmao:
Must be wierd........pulling up to something like that at a red lite and looking around
for the F-250 or something similar making that racket while the lite changes...........
I can see myself doing something like that.......JUST to see if I could do it. Beer has a
marvelous ability to get a person in trouble, especially if they have a few too many.
Maybe he just HAD to follow up on a stupid dare or bet.........:rofl1::rofl1:
Andy :wavey:

:lmao::lmao::rofl1::rofl1:

I agree with you Andy:rofl1::rofl1:

I wouldn't do it, but this came off a diesel site, and they do some wild stuff with those things.

There are some raised, 4wd 250-350 diesels out there that will give a stock to slightly modded vette a bad day at the track:eek:Now that would be embarrasing:rofl1:

Imagine, once the smoke slears, all you can see is tailights of a truck...fading off into the distance....:lmao::lmao:

That "black smoke" is just unburned fuel Rich. Whatever is the composition of diesel fuel is in that smoke.

I'm not sure why you're seeing that much smoke behing a (passenger) diesel truck Rich?

The newer "clean diesel technology, combined with cleaner non-sulfide fuels, create little to no smoke under normal engine operation.

I'm in traffic almost daily and I seldom see "smoke" from the diesel trucks.
Of course, I'm talking about mainly the F-250-350's-Dodge Rams and Chevys.) either at idle or when travelling down the road.

If the vehicle is modified, the emissions systems tampered with or not working properly, or if they're under a heavy load, then you will likely see some momentary smoke, but it's generally just that, momentary, then it's gone.

It's much the same as mashing the throttle on the Vette. Generally, you'll see see a momentary puff of smoke, then it's gone:thumbsup:

There are some applications that some will buy to create smoke, but frankly, I wouldn't want one.

As far as smokescreens, apparently you haven't driven behind some of the clunkers I have.:toetap05::toetap05:

Just the other day I was behind this old POS buick on the INTERSTATE of all places! The SOB threw out so much smoke, you couldn't see the back of the car. I really thought the thing was on fire from a distance. As I got closer, I could smell the oil:thumbsdown:

The guy drove right by a deputy, without so much as a look:(

You still hear the Dodges "rattle" but the Fords and Chebbys are pretty quiet these days:thumbsup:

Sound allright, and it would be fun to put a nice black cloud on tailriders but Im gonna keep the 454 in my C3:hehehe:

A drop or 2 of oil introduced into the intake or exhaust system on demand, should give you said effect at the push of a button;)

What are you getting Gordon?

I'm looking for an F250-350 crew cab 4x4. Preferably the 99-05 or so. Nothing new and something I can pay for in cash.

Would like the twin turbo version but would settle for the single.

Has to be diesel though. The gassers just don't have the "umph" to do what I want it to do.

Won't be a Daily Driver though.

Need it to pull the rescue airboats, amphibious vehicle and the fixed hull training boats.

...and maybe to bring home my next vette project one day?:D
