What's "funny" about all that is that the GOOD shops aren't very different in price. The only guys who are significantly cheaper are also giving you something significantly less. Let's face it, 90% of the cost in these things is the parts, and everybody pretty much pays the same for that. Techs all have to eat, so they aren't free either. Pick the shop you like and PAY THE MAN. If you can't afford to do that you can't afford this hobby. Sorry to be harsh about it, but them's the plain facts.Anti Venom said:I know Rich; but you know how some people can be on forums, once someone puts up a price in public, there are several people who come up and say, hell I know someone who can do it cheaper. That is just a bunch of crap that this forum does'nt deserve to have PLASTERED all over it.:ack2:
Case in point: got into a discussion recently on The Other Board about LPE. A gentleman asked some innocent and not terribly well-informed questions about what it would cost to get his '01 engine rebuilt (because they "all" burn oil) and was asking about LPE prices. I made some comments trying to point him in the right direction in terms of what he really needed, if and when, which was a new crate engine or a rebuilt longblock, not a LPE H/C package. Anyways, some guy jumps in and starts going off about how LPE prices are such a ripoff, etc., etc. You've heard it all before. I had been talking about prices for a complete quality longblock, installed. He starts talking about how "he can do that for $2800". And of course, what he was talking about was a machined block and rotating assembly, only, for $2800. No cam, timing set, oil pump, lifters, gaskets, heads, etc., etc., to say nothing of labor. Like you're going to replace the rotating and put all the other original parts back in. Some people are just in frickin fantasyland.
