Any changes in driving habits yet?

A while back I started a poll about driving habits changing because of the high price of gasoline. Which at the time, I think, was under $2 per gallon.

So times have changed, and not for the better. Saw my first sign on a Chevron station with 93 octane running at $4.06 per gallon.

Not doing a poll this time, but how has this affected YOU in the way you drive and your plans for trips and vacations? Personally, I'm glad we had stopped doing those long distant reptile shows we used to do. A 22 hour trip up to Chicago would be VERY expensive today, and put more overhead on the trip than it would be worth. Heck, with a tank of gasoline costing around $75 for the vettes, I'm thinking twice about any sort of joy riding. Sort of takes the fun out of it when you feel that the gas gauge is attached to a vein in your leg.

What about the rest of you? Feeling any impact?

Yes. But first I have to preface this with I use regular grade most of the time. Works just fine:thumbsup:

I drive the vette almost daily now unless the weather goes to crap. It gets at minimum, twice the fuel economy of my Toyota Landcruiser. On the highway, even better:thumbsup:

I do a lot of running between Sarasota and points south and Tampa. USe it all the time for that. The only thing that bugs me about it is it cuts into any mods I want to do because I need to use it:(

I'm looking into the Scion truck (the mini bread box):rofl1:or maybe even an older Toyota P/U X-cab. It'll do what I need and get the mileage too. Probably gonna sell the LC and mod the vette:thumbsup:

Yea, I work from home 4 days a week sometimes 5. The daily driver is an '06 HHR. Gets pretty good gas mileage, but still cost $50 to fill it up.

And I will start using regular more often in the Vette.

I too am watching where I go. Going to Vettes @ the Light this weekend cause I was pre-registered otherwise would have passsed.

I am a realist, when the Vette becomes too expensive to drive, I will get rid of it in lieu of storing it in the garage...and get something that is sensible for the time...

Just like the Charger, Challenger & new camaro, the Vette should have a 6 Cyl option which they are already talking about from what I hear...

Greg has been driving them to school them comming straight to the sho instead of home. that is good for 6 miles a day, and since I beat my car a little to much she has decided to not have second gear for the next week or so. in return I can use regular unleaded, Since I cant punch it anyway

Actually I drive the Vette more than ever now. Mainly because my other ride is a diesel truck and we all know how much diesel cost. I don't have time for joy riding anyway. I do run 93 octane though, I tried 87 in mine but it does NOT like it. Runs like crap! Fortunatly I have my "company car".

I WAS PAYING 3 BUCKS A GALLON ON THE EARLY 80 S WHEN I WAS STATION IN GERMANY AND I HAD Z28 WITH ME THERE SO YOU KNOW THE AUTOBAHN WAS A BLESSING FOR ME, SO THIS PRICES ARE NOT NEW TO ME. I DRIVE 40 MILES ROUNDTRIP TO WORK EVERY DAY SO I USED THE GOOD OLD ECLIPSE WITH A 4 CYLINDER, CHANGES MY HABITS OF DRIVING AND I GET ABOUT 340 MILES ON 13 GALLONS COMBINE CITY AND HIGHWAY ,SO IF YOU COMPARE IT TO THE NEW VETTES WITH A V8 ,VETTES GOT ANY ONE BEAT. THE KEY IS NOT TO PUSH THAT PEDAL ,USE CRUISE CONTROL, NOW MY WIFE MAKES 1 TRIP A WEEK TO THE STORE WITH A LIST AND WE MAP IT OUT MAKING RIGHT TURNS WHEN POSSIBLE BELIEVE IT OR NOT HELPS SAVING GAS. ASK THE EXPERTS OF U P S . IF WE NEED NEED SOMETHING QUICK MY BICYCLE IS MY CHOICE TO GET TO PUBLIX ONLY 1.5 MILES OUT AND IS A GOOD EXCERCISE. THOSE PRICES ARE HERE TO STAY AND BY THE WAY A V6 CORVETTE :banghead::banghead: NO WAY . NO WAY :banghead::banghead:

Nope. Foot on the floor when ever I get. I guess I do try to not drive as much though. I am thinking about getting a motorcycle for my short commute to and from work. Not because I can't afford the gas, just don't want to pay for it. The oil companies are already making a killing. But when I drive the vette...I'm gonna have fun regardless of gas prices.

Great reply to the 6cyl statement. The performance is the main reason to own a vette.
Drive it and enjoy the car.

The new vettes are getting 25-27+, how can that be a problem. Stay out of the loud pedal and all will be good:thumbsup:

Even my old 85 has gotten 21 mpg when it's running good. I need new plug wires, only getting 19 mpg right now, but I'm not complaining, my old 454 Camaro did good to get 14 mpg on the highway (wish I still had it).

And some of the old ones aren't bad either!!! I get 30+ out of my 03 Z-51 all the time!!My last trip to Missouri and back to see my family I averaged 35+ on regular!! I love 6 sp's and know how squeeze a nickles worth of gas till the Buffalo Sh*t's!!

There ya go:thumbsup:

No real reason to get out of a late model vette (C4 on up) just over the price of fuel. Some of the vettes are in the econo-box range for highway mileage:thumbsup:

The only reason I'm considering a small truck is the number of miles I drive and the places I sometimes end up. I just don't want to trash out the vette on these sh***y roads and places I go.

If it were simply to work and back, I'd drive it forever!

At least I'd have a little fun while driving:thumbsup:

I use my Expedition most of the time but the 80.00 to fill it may force me to sell it. Then again, who in the heck would want to buy a guzzling SUV anyway? :shrug01::ack2:

I only drive the Z to and from work plus a couple of errands. I usually bunch the errands together. My city driving is a lot better than most people because I work at night. I rarely drive during either rush hour or lunch time. City driving I get 22-23mpg and highway I get 31mpg driving 70mph. I only have to fill up once every two weeks or so. I'm paying roughly $130 a month. Not too bad...yet.

IMO there shouldn't be a 6 cyl option for the Vette.

Mine stays in the garage more often, and use the bike for daily drive, at 40 mpg, the bike pays for itself. Now when the vette does come out to play, it is still driven hard, with the loud pedal down, just not as ofter.

I don't drive my vette often .So the price of gas will not stop me from taking a cruise in the :vette:

I just downsized my DD Jeep for a Toyota Matrix, still pretty comfortable but thank goodness I have the Vette for anxiety attacks.:hehehe:
