I did the Pertronix II install. got a very good show buy at the NCRS meet. It consists of the electronic module which fits under the distributer cap and a Flame Thrower coil. It looks totally stock. It brings a very nice preformance level over the old points and condensor set up.
I'm very happy with it and would recomended it to anyone who still has the points, condensor set up

Sorry Kap, I guess I missed your original post. There are not many of us point guys left on the site.
Even though this is after the fact, here is what I did. In my '69 427, I actually left the points in the distributor. I had a decent set of Accel points in there and they were like new. But I wanted a little help in the iginition area, so I put an MSD 6AL with a 6,000 chip. Now the car looks stock, and in fact it is a matching numbers car. So the NCRS guys may turn their nose up at it but it is not their car. I tried to hide it as best as I could by mounting it in the engine compartment underneath the passenger fender on the inner fender well. If you stand on the drivers side and look for it you can clearly see it, but other than that it is tucked away pretty good.
The ignition performance change dramatically. My car has a 3.08 rear, so it is always a little slower out of the hole, but I tend to catch people on the top end. After putting the MSD box in the RPMs turn up much quicker and I check the points regularly with virtually no wear.
Sorry I did not get this to you sooner, but I am sure the Petronix was easier on your budget than my MSD box.
