C4 ign. key will not go into locked position so it can be removed

I just got a C5 04 model for my birthday and I parked my 95 Coupe for about a week, then came back to make sure the battery was still charged up ok.
After running the engine for about 20 minutes and putting it in all the gear settings making sure all was ok. I then went to turn it off and remove the key, but it would not go into the locked position ( this is an automatic transmission )
also. Any suggestions as to the fix.

Maybe giggle the steering wheel, or ensure the car is fully in park?

I have tried that to no avail, something else is that the button does not pop up when in Park.

Make sure the gear lever is all the way forward. You may have to just give it a "pop" forward. I have to do that with my 96 A4 from time to time.
