DXDT Corvettes look to repeat Road America magic in brand’s first trip to Barber

DETROIT (September 4, 2024) – DXDT Racing hopes to ride its momentum with the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs to additional victories this weekend as the GT World Challenge America series returns to Barber Motorsports Park.

As usual, two of the first-year Corvette GT3s are on the entry list, led by the No. 63 Z06 GT3.R of Corvette factory driver Tommy Milner and Alec Udell. The pairing is on a six-race win streak, having swept the last three doubleheader weekend events at Circuit of The Americas, Virginia International Raceway and Road America.

Bryan Sellers and Bryson Morris are set to team again for the second consecutive event, albeit with a slightly different look. The duo will race the No. 64 Corvette Z06 GT3.R – a nod to the history of Corvette Racing.

The 2.38-mile, 16-turn circuit just outside Birmingham, Ala., is a new track for the Corvette program. To assist in event preparation, DXDT Racing tested there in recent days to validate work done on Chevrolet’s Driver-in-the-Loop simulator, and some of the drivers have past experiences to fall back on. Both Milner and Sellers were competitors when the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series raced there, and Udell swept the GT Cup class when World Challenge last visited Barber in 2016.

DXDT Racing is seeking to make more history with the Corvette at Barber, following on the results of the last GT World Challenge America rounds at Road America. In addition to another sweep by Milner and Udell, DXDT secured its first 1-2 finish and double-victory race by winning both the Pro and Pro-Am classes.

DXDT Racing will race in the first of two GT World Challenge America races at Road America at 3:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s second race at 2:15 p.m. ET. Live coverage of both races plus timing & scoring will be available at gt-world-challenge-america.com and SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.

DXDT RACING CORVETTE PRE-EVENT QUOTES

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 63 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “It’s been a long time since I’ve raced at Barber, and it’s a great facility. This Corvette has been fast everywhere we go, and I’m expecting something similar here. It should suit our car better than some of the more recent races we’ve been to. Straight-line speed hasn’t been our strong suit at the moment, and Barber doesn’t have a lot of those. It will be hard to pass in a lot of places for sure. There are places like Turn Five at the hairpin where there is a good outbraking opportunity. The long right-hander at the end of the lap… the tendency there is for the car to start drifting wider and wider, and you can make something there if you stay on the inside. We’re trying to ride the wave of success with DXDT Racing. The team is doing a great job. No one is leaving anything on the table. So we are still pushing forward to make sure we have great racecars and get everyone up to speed as quickly as we can.”

ALEC UDELL, NO. 63 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “We tested there, and it went pretty well. It’s been really nice to be able to work with all the talented people at the team and Corvette Racing to extract the maximum performance out of this car. I’ve had the ability to do some simulator work that we’ll lean on a bit. That’s helpful and all a matter of wrapping our hands around works best for this car. The car behaves how you’d expect it to behave when you’re making changes. I’m not thinking anything is going to be different when we get to Barber.”

“Barber can produce some great racing, but it also can produce some lead-follow racing. So track position is going to be very important. You may have some opportunities into Turn One and Turn Five, and then it kind of funnels down into single-file stuff for the rest of the lap. So there are two good passing opportunities unless you can force someone else into a mistake under pressure. For us, it’s another reason why we’re really going to lean on those technical advantages on a tight circuit, especially for qualifying.”

CHRISTIE BAGNE, CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R PROGRAM MANAGER: “DXDT Racing comes into the race at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend with race-winning momentum and the opportunity to carry on its strong run into the Indianapolis Eight Hours. Execution by the team of drivers, crew members and engineers will be crucial for success at Barber. We are confident they are up for the challenge.”
