Curious...

Wassup!!!
As you may have read in a few of my threads, we just had some repairs done to my wifes C5, which included fuel sensors and Tire pressure sensors.
What I couldn't figure out is why the Extended warranty plan "Continental" national (I think) only covered $7.00 of the tax and we had to pay for the rest. Is this normal?:shrug01:

Does the GM protection plan differ?

I'm actually considering canceling my plan with these guys and seeking other alternatives.

Tax, hum. Never heard of a consumer paying tax on a service that was under warranty or an extended service contract. If you had to pay tax in your state it would be on the extended service contract itself, not the individual repairs. Maybe their were customer pay items that had to be taxed?

Strange.

GMPP is only taxed upon the sale of the service contract if your dealers state requires this.

Hope this helps.

A first for Me!!

I know some Contracts have a deductible!! But this is a New one on me,Ray!:shrug01::thumbsup:

Even the deductible should not be taxed. It should simply be $0, $50, $100, or whatever your policy demands.

This just happened to me. When I bought my 01 C5 the dealer sold me an extended warranty foe about 3 gazillion dollars. This was my first used car purchased from a dealer so I didn't know the ins and outs of the warranty game.
I have a $100.00 deductible. Three weeks ago took the car in to have a flasher replaced... I was charged the deductible and tax on the entire bill.
Ynkedad said he was thinking of canceling his plan, is this an option without losing all you paid for it?

Well I was thinking about it, but I'm having a rough time finding another plan for the 2000 C5. Because of the year the extended warranty prices are higher.
BTW.. typically if you cancel a policy (purchased thru a dealership) your refunded the balance of what you paid for their extended warranty.

As much as the dealerships screw you on extended warranties, I wouldn't buy a used car without one. Did that once at the wifes insistance...paid 3-4 times what the warranty would have cost in problems over the next year or so:(

She quit arguing with me about them after that:rolleyes:

I tend to avoid "aftermarket" warranties though unless highly recommended by another user. Too many clauses and horror stories.

I'd call the dealership and find out exactly why and on what I was taxed?

Sound ???to me

I would contact a GMPP rep and ask them what you are obligated to pay on each covered repair. When I worked at the Chevy dealer the customer paid the deductible ONLY....no tax. It sounds to me like another dealer scam. I had repairs made to my wife's Trailblazer this past summer and we paid nothing out of pocket, and this was a Members Choice Platinum plan we bought from the credit union. One thing I'll say about aftermarket warranties, their reps watch the dealers like hawks, they don't let them pull much on them, at least the ones I dealt with.

An extended service contract (namely GMPP backed by GM) requires only your deductible option (none, $50, $100, or $200) on warranty repairs. If a repair was not covered by the extended service contract the dealer will charge sales tax, labor and parts for that repair.

To verify this information feel free to give GM a call at 800-631-5590. This is the customer service line to GMPP service contracts only.

Yes, very unfortunate for that dealer to choose to act in that way. Also even more unfortunate for the consumer that was affected.
