Emissions Testing Coming to Florida??

The only smog is the smog that idiot sees when he inserts his head up his arse!!!

I swear! Can't we think for ourselves? Why follow Kalifornia? If I wanted Kalifornia regs. I'd freaking move there Charlie!!!

He can't get a grip on the insurance industry or the tax problem but he wants to go green.....

Thanks for the link! It appears any new legislation will apply to new vehicles, so my old 69 and 79 will be safe. IMO all Gov Christ has to do is give police authority to ticket cars and trucks with an obvious emission violation. I see vehicles on I-95 wearing FL plates and with obvious emissions problems all the time. Creating a billion dollar emissions testing system is a waste of money IMO. Better he should pass legislation to curb the escalating cost of home insurance. Politicians can only come up with ways to spend money, not save it. (rant over):banghead:

I knew that sooner or later this would be coming
Now I will be stuck with late model vettes-Oh well
This is what they call progress.

Or socialism, but thats the way the wind blows.:hehehe: Have a good day

Damn time to change, first it looks like I may not get a pay raise for the next couple of years ( city employee ) now he going after my headers and corsa exhaust. What next mandated bikes or horses!

I've only seen smog in Miami from around dawn to dusk in downtown. When you are on 95 south heading towards downtown during the day you can see the yellowish haze around the skyline but I've never seen this in any other part of the state.

Florida is as flat as a piece of, well, PLYWOOD! I remember as a kid we had those stupid smog inspections and then they got rid of them. Then they brought them back but only for Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Hillsborough Co.s. What a crock!!!!!!! Why only the five most populas counties? $$$$$$!!!!! Jeb got rid of them because it was well, a total scam and a waste of time. I remember in Miami-Dade right in front of the DMV where they did those stupid smog inspections, there would be a mechanic with a sign outside saying "Pass your inspection here!"
They'd rig your car just to go across the street and pass and then comeback and set it back to spec. Such a scam.

Then they allowed mechanics to become "certified" emissions inspectors and they would simply charge you twice the price of the DMV and give you the sticker without even bothering to inspect it. Again, a big scam. I've been told by a couple of muffler shops that as long as you have your cat on and it's in good working order, you'll be fine. Also if your car is older then I believe 1974-76, somehwere in there, then you are exempt.

Write your State Representatives and Senators. I'm serious. This could be very painful and expensive for all of us.

And if he gets his way on powerplants, get ready for some BIG electricity bills.

This comes as no surprise. I predict it will not only be an emmisions test but will also be a safety test. Did you really think that the government was going to give us those massive property tax cuts :lmao: and not come up with another way to make up for that lost revenue. Like always we will pay more than enough to make up for any loss in property tax revenue. In Mass there is a emission and safety inspection once a year for $30.00. Fifteen dollars goes to the state and fifteen to the repair shop. Multiply that times every car you see on the road. Also the repair facility has to have two bays dedicated to inspections, and they have to buy and install a dyno plus the inspection machine itself. Sounds like a win win situation for the state and basically another tax for the consumer. The vehicle and owner info is linked to a central database and guess what, if your a deadbeat dad, or have outstanding traffic tickets or any other legal problems no sticker for you. Caught with an expired sticker, no problem, $50.00 fine. Plus what better way to generate revenue for the repair shop. You pull in for a sticker the first thing they do is scrape off your old sticker. Now with your car on the dyno they check your emissions, then your safety items. Opps, got a $2.00 parking lamp out ? No problem for an additional $15.00 we'll put a new one in for you then give you a sticker. Don't feel like getting raped that morning, no problem we'll give you a nice big fat rejection sticker that expires in fifteen days. Sounds to me it's time to bend over and spread 'em. One saving grace though, they probably won't charge sales tax on stickers. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We had emission testing back in the early 90's here in Tampa, then it just went away. That's gonna suck for the headers guys!

When I left Ohio some counties had and still do have a thing called E- Check. You car has to go through this this every two years and pass before you can renew your tags.
It has been proven this test has damaged cars. It's a similar to being on a dyno. Mostly young , uneducated kids drive your car during the test. You watch from a room.
If you fail and spend $500.00, documented at an E-Check certified facility you can get a waiver and get your tags. :shrug01:
Even though the failed car is still polluting the air it's OK as long as some politician is making a buck. It also cost $20.00 for the test.
I forgot, not all the counties have this. Franklin County, the largest and where the state capitol, Columbus is located, didn't have E-Check when I left Ohio.

Pretty typical government action. Give with one hand, and take with the other.........

I don't know about the state constitution, but the US Constitution has a specific prohibition against ex post facto laws. Any law passed that increases or creates a penalty for a prior existing condition is considered as "ex post facto". Meaning, if you car is legal on the street TODAY, any law passed afterwards that makes the car ILLEGAL tomorrow even though nothing has changed with the vehicle, is ex post facto.

But of course, and government will happily get away with anything that the people allow them to do so...

Actually after researching it a little, it doesn't appear at least FOR NOW, that it's going to come to that. What it going to happen is all new cars are going to be the Peoples Republic of California legal in Florida. Friggin' commies! Hopefully we don't start receiving P.R.C. gas since it's about $.50 more then it is here.

Back when we had emissions inspections in Florida, headers were not an issue. Modding the exhaust was perfectly exceptable. What you couldn't do is remove the cat' and your cat' had to be in perfect working order. I have heard this from several muffler shops that used to operate during the emissions inspection days. What happens is those innercores in cat's go bad after so many years and that's where they were screwing us.

So either you paid the mechanic to rig your car just to pass inspection, hence you are paying twice or you went to the newly "certified" mechanics to get your sticker which was still the same price as the rig and the inspection......or, you had a new cat' put in and got your sticker that way and save the payment to the "certified" shop every year. For those of you that mentioned the property tax cuts, remember, it hasn't been passed yet. We still have to vote it in or out. I'll be voting it out since it doesn't benefit me really in the slightest bit but I can only speak for myself.

The thing to remember is that the manner in which politicians obtain and express their power in office is by the manner and methods with which they spend OUR money. They are not going to give up any of this power voluntarily. Tax cuts take away some of their power. New taxes add to it. So is it any wonder that taxes are always increasing?

And they will use every excuse and trick in the book. Increase taxes on gasolines to enforce conservation. Claim that the taxes they are levying on corporations is ONLY a corporate tax that doesn't come out of the little peoples (us) pocketbooks. Yeah, right.
