Hello,

Yesterday I completed my first Corvette purchase! I got me a 77 Orange beauty.

I need to fix a few minor things like the signal lights and radio. Also, I few bigger things like tuning up the engine (runs super rich) etc.

My question for yall:

Should I take the car to a mechanic that specifically works on Corvettes? Or will any domestic shop work? Anyone know of a good shop in the Destin/Panhandle area? Being non-auto inclined, should I try to fix the minor things myself using tutorials and books?

For the most part, unless your regular mechanic is intimately familiar with the quirks and nuances of these things, I'd look for someone vette specific.

The little things, if you don't know all the tricks, can run up a huge repair bill while seeking them out.

I'd find a local corvette club in your area or someone from the forum here that lives there, and see what you can glean from them:thumbsup:

There's a lot of great knowldege and great folks here...

You will find here the nicest people here.Owning a corvette is a great life style,beware of most shops that deal with non corvettes and ask around before having your baby worked on,you will know if you find a good place to get it work on.Don't forget to wave and post some pictures when you can,we don't care what shape it is in,Remember there is no such thing as a ugly corvette.:wavey::dancer01:

I do believe that there is a shop up there that regular post on this forum.:thumbsup:

I remember my first Vett ,so I know your feelins.As a matter of fact everyone I've bought I fell in love with.

The above posts say it all especially Shadow.I can only say it's great to buy $500 worth of manuals just so you can say "I fixed my own mirror set screw".

No matter what enjoy your first ,you'll always remember it.
 
Hey 77andOrange....... :welcome: to CorvetteFlorida! The FIRST thing you should do if you're thinking about working on the car yourself is to buy a set of GM Maintenance Manuals :yesnod:. Having the manuals makes it easy to see how complicated :eek: something is, and makes deciding whether to do it yourself or let a mechanic do it, all the easier. Whichever route you decide on to fix the problems, enjoy the car :thumbsup:!

I strongly suggest making sure whoever you take it to knows about Corvettes and how to work on them.

And as "Backyard Mechanic" said above ( THANKS BACKYARD) we are not far from you.

get a good book nothing like working on it yourself I do all my own work some time it ticks me off but you'll get over it

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome. The advice is much appreciated! I'm going to buy some books, and look for that perfect vette shop. Meanwhile, I'll try and take some pictures to post.

Ain't nothing like driving a vette if you love them. I absoulty can't keep a smile off my face every time I kick "Bad Booger" in the @ss! Have fun and wave!
