I never had a FOB with my 'vette and I really want one. For the years 97-00, the FOB that works is the one with the "passive" on/off switch right? Mine is a '98.

I found one on Ebay that I was going to bid on so a quick response is needed with the next hour to see if this one will work. It is the one with the passive on/off switch and has this on the back of it:

Darn, wish I could help you. I've got an '02, and only got one FOB with the car, so I got a duplicate from the dealer here locally.

Speaking of which, mine has a weird problem. Seems that when I stop the car to run into a store or something, when I come back out often the FOB just doesn't work at all unless I walk around and stand within 6 ft of the driver's side door. But when it has been sitting all day or all night, I can trigger it standing on my porch 30 to 40 ft away without a hitch. Just one of those nagging little things that really isn't worth putting into a shop to get it fixed, I guess, but it kind of puzzles me.

Anyway, good luck on getting an answer in time.
 
From what I have read, each door and the hatch, have a battery powered transmitter. Supposedly when the batteries get old, this kinda thing happens.

The reason in Florida that this is sporatic such as your case is, because of the weather. The humidy and heat kill these types of electronics. I had this problem happen with my Sentra and it's alarm in which it would sit around all day and I could open it from 50 ft. away. But if I was using it all day, it would not work.

I called the tech support line and they told me the internal memory was shot. They told me straight up that the heat and humidity over the years kills the internal memory and if it gets too hot it makes the electronics not work properly unless you disco' the battery. I noticed this because the problems occured during the daytime only. At night and early morning it was fine. I remember someone had a fix for this on on www.forums.corvetteforums.com.

Yeah disco' the main battery. As for the batteries on the doors and hatch, I may be wrong about that. I might've gotten them confused with drilling out the TPS.:confused:

I believe the doors and hatch have little transmitters that are hardwired to the car. I remember reading an article on drilling them out and cleaning them and that helped restore their range.

Oh, and yes GM: 10253839 is for 97-00.
