Holiday Fire Safety tips

I had not thought of posting up some holiday safety tips until Gordon aka Shadow presented the idea to me. So here goes...
If you must purchase a "real" tree for Christmas then please keep it watered and away from heat/cooling vents to prevent drying out as much as possible.
Here is why:http://www.fire.nist.gov/tree_fire.htm
Watch the video. 45 seconds is not long for those types of fire conditions and I can assure you that you will not fare well if you are in the home at the time.

Also, fire extinguishers make great holiday gifts. Please do not place them under the sink though. They will get pushed to the back and won't be accessible when needed. It is now suggested that you mount them near your clothes dryer. We are seeing more and more lint fires.

Although candles are pretty to look at and some smell nice please refrain as much as possible from using them especially with small children and pets in the house. Many fires occur each year due to accidental candle fires.

Have a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!!

Andy,

Thank you for the post. Anything else you want to link here regarding that topic, feel free.

I don't mind gettin shot at but fire scares the hell outta me!!!

Thanks for everything you and your brother and sister firefighters/paramedics do for us:thumbsup::usa_flag:

Merry Christmas:icon_cheers:

Thanks Gordon.
Fire is scary and can change lives in an instance.
As far as getting shot at goes... that is why I'm not a LEO, I would probably be the one shooting all of the stupid people!!!
God Bless and Merry Christmas to ALL:thumbsup:

1) Remember never, never throw a flaming cha-uah into a real tree! It might scorch the kitty (AKA Smudge) cat in the tree and you know how mad that makes a Smudge.

2) To protect a real tree you might consider placing a small sprinkler attached to your garden hose atop the tree in place of the standard ornament, mind you it'll still pizz off Smudge but fire danger will be greatly reduced.

3) Remember that C-4 is seldom an appropriate gift placed beneath the tree 'cause if the tree does catch fire it could get very ugly (and Smudge would really be pizzed off).

4) It is no longer recommended by the National Fire Fighters Association to sit under your real tree and smoke ganga, tends to mess up the beautiful evergreen smell (and that damn sprinkler makes it hard as hell to keep a good doobie lit).

5) Remember, as stated above, keep your tree well watered (but don't let your male Great Dane do it)(oh and Smudge might be in the lower branches).

Just a bit of "Ken" silliness, God bless and all have a great Christmas.:dancer01::lmao::lmao::thumbsup:

Oh by the way as long as I've completely hijacked this thread please don't hesitate for a second to add your own words of wisdom

Note: edited for the benefit of "Smudge" and for my dear friend Shadow
