• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

Applied for social security yesterday. I'm already on Medicare, so I guess this now makes it official that I have joined the Over The Hill Gang. :(

65? Or 70? I'm waiting until 70. Or I should say I'm PLANNING on waiting that long.....:shrug01:

I took SS as soon as I was eligible. Who among us really believes there will be any money left in that fund in a few years?

I'll be 66 on July 21, which makes me eligible for full retirement benefits.

I've seen charts on the comparison of waiting until I am 70 to start receiving benefits, and if I remember correctly, the crossover point to where the TOTAL amount received for SS is reached is something like at 84 years old. So if you believe you will live longer than 84 years and still be healthy and mobile, waiting till you are 70 makes sense. Otherwise, grab the money while you are still alive and able to actually enjoy spending that money on things you are still able to do. :shrug01:

No one in my family has lived past 80 years of age, so it is highly unlikely that I will beat that record. The difference is $700 per month for me, but I feel like the government is betting on me to NOT live till I am 70. So I am not taking the bait.

Yeah, this is a consideration too. I figured it more likely that the government won't mess with people who are presently collecting SS and depending on the income, but they can move the goal posts around at will for those people who will BECOME eligible at some future date.

I signed up at 69 for many reasons that made sense for my situation .May I state that Bernie will double our payments and provide free coffee .

Now I signed up and was told I would receive my first check during the third week of March .We're skipping into the fourth month and nothing has popped into my bank account yet .Checked today because I was concerned that some illegal Pakistani was living well off my funds .Nope just your typical Government screw up but thank god they are going to look into it (someday ).I've lived without the money for 69 years so it's not critical for me but to someone else it could be serious .I have a vision of getting a $387,000 back payment someday as I'm being wheeled into a nursing home .

One more example that the Gov't does nothing right

You do realize that when you are being wheeled into that nursing home, the government will just take that check back from you, don't you? Yeah, THAT is the way that government works "for us".

Just read that the SS fund is only 60 trillion in debt (thats current)

Yeah, because instead of our government let the funds sit in accounts and gain interest when it was operating WAY in the black, they used it as their own personal slush fund, and just put IOUs on the accounting books. Personally I think EVERY legislator that took part in that rape should be expunged from the history books and any still alive (and their families) should have the retirement funds taken away and they pay that money back into the SSA accounts.

I'm just getting more and more tired of our government bending us over, then later on come to us with more taxes and fees claiming that WE are responsible for their malfeasance while in office.

Yeah, I AM becoming a C-R-A-N-K-Y old coot..... :hehehe:
