Hope whatever it was is over for you? ANd you're always welcome here:thumbsup:
God I hope so. I don't want to even see another damned hospital as long as I live. But thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Might was well reintroduce myself... I mean, with less than 10 posts I know how hard it will be to find my original one if you were interested. :crazy03:
Well, my name is Josh, I live in Lake Alfred, which is the town whose purpose is to supply tax money to pay for roads for trucks to get to Winter Haven from I4. :hehehe: It's in Polk County, just a few miles north of I4 if you don't know the general area.
I have an 84 Corvette in a lovely shade of pearlescent doo-doo brown. Redid the interior a bit, rebuilt the engine and refreshed the suspension a bit. I resprayed it factory doo-doo brown and drove it untill the tranny started to show it's age. The original owner, my father, treated the car well so it was just barely showing any adverse affects from it's 155,000 miles.
So then I took the car to a transmission shop called Scott's Transmissions to have it rebuilt, worked, and a shift kit put in. Unfortunately, as others with the CFI know, to get the tranny off you have to pull the top part of the intake. Another unfortunate event is that my father picked up the car. The car had a racing exhaust which was really loud, and being unfamiliar with the way the car ran post-mods, brought it home. I got home from school just as he was pulling in the road. That's when I heard the knock in the engine.
I pulled the engine open and found 3 bolts in it. Well, they were bolts at one time, now they're just.. kind of... weird smashed up metal pieces. I still have them somewhere. I doubt that they would have got that screwed up from the relatively short drive from the shop to the house, so I checked my odometer. I don't have any proof since I didn't write the mileage down, but if my memory served me that day then the car had 65 miles or so more on it than when I dropped it off. It's about 12-13 miles from the shop to my house.
So I went to the shop to confront the owner. Denied that the bolts came from his shop. I had checked the whole damn car and found no missing bolts, so I didn't buy that. I doubt that it was the owner's fault, as his help was less than perfect (one didn't even speak English, something I wish I had known
before they worked on my car). I figure some ****tard working for him didn't cover the intake when the cover was off and (hopefully) accidentally dropped in a few bolts. But I was still pissed off. He denied any fault so I just left. Though in hindsight I should have called a lawyer...
Anyway, the damage came down to some ****ed up valves, a head, pistons, and scraped up cylinder walls. The heads didn't bother me, I just put on the aftermarket ones I bought that had came in when the car was at the shop. The valves got replaced with the heads. The bottom end was something else though. I drove it a bit to see if it would drive alright, figuring I couldn't mess up the engine much more, anyway. A few days later I found out that the goddamned transmission was leaking. Took it back, and he "fixed" it. Three "fixes" later I just gave up so the bitch still leaks a bit, though I helped it a bit buy taking the tranny off and reinstalling it. After that I pulled the engine out to repair it and change the heads. Taking a closer look at the cylinder walls I knew that I had to bore quite a bit to get those scores out. So I figured that I'd get what I wanted when I first got the car, the 383 stroker kit.
So now it's faster than it used to be, and I have another story to tell about why I hate the last 5 years of my life. I'm going to guess 400hp at the engine and 500ft/lbs of torque, so I guess it didn't turn out too bad though. I can pace the C5s and even C6s (to a point). :yesnod:
I'll get up a picture later, since I had the most recent pics of the car on a friend's webiste. He shut it down so I'll have to upload some more later.
I have a few more cars. First off is an 87 Nissan 300ZX 2+2. It's a parts car, not worth the time to post a picture. I have another 87 300ZX, the white one in my avatar. I've got the turbo conversion parts, turbo brakes, a rebuilt transmission, and a black interior waiting to find it's way into it. I gave up trying to close my closet months ago. :hehehe: A u-joint went bad, so I'm waiting around for no particular reason to buy a custom aluminum driveshaft with replaceable GM u-joints (the OEM ones aren't replaceable... why, I have no idea). Might get a new clutch and flywheel and change those while the drivetrain is out. The car was wrecked racing a few months after I bought it, so when I fixed it I did all the cosmetic stuff I had planned then. Kind of regret it now though, since it's slow and is unfortunate enough to look "extremely fast", as more than one Camaro owner has put it.
Then earlier this month, on the 6th to be exact, I decided that I hadn't suffered enough already. So I bought this POS 73 240Z from the sister-in-law of the woman I bought my white 87 from. Only God knows why I've decided to restore this rusty bastard, but at the very least I paid less money for it than there are in parts, should I decide to instead part it out. The stock radio in this thing went for about $360 a bit back, and it was just opened up and cleaned. So that won't be around much longer... :hehehe:
And um... that's it for now. :shrug01:
