...and I ain't talking about the ford pick up either!

Got hit on Monday @ 2:04 pm. took the cable and internet down. Brighthouse said they couldn't be here until next Sunday. I said don't worry. By then i'll have VERIZON!:D

...They'll be here on Thursday (since today was a holiday;))

I'm working off my laptop and air card at the moment. Don't mond the lack of cable but I needed the internet for business!

Good to see you all again.

:wavey:

Man, that lightening is a bitch! Over the years we've lost 2 trees, had a hole in the ceiling, lost VCRs, modems, TVs and other electrical things. Florida is a dangerous place to live :yesnod: Glad you didn't have any personal injuries.

Thanks and yes, you're right. we had several people hit just outside the doors of a church we were attending one time. They tried to leave early and God got 'em:NoNo::rofl1:

They were pretty messed up but survived. Bet they stay put till the preacher say's Amen next time!:rofl1:

Man, I've got surge suppressors on just about everything electronic. The cable from Comcast is a weak link, but I have a suppressor on that as well. Plus it goes through an amplifier that will probably take the hit before it gets to my cable modem and router. I was running wireless, but cabled ethernet is just so much faster with a gigabit setup.

If I remember correctly, Florida has the highest number of lightning deaths of any of the other states.

Which reminds me. I used to feel fairly safe in a vehicle during a lightning storm. The metal body of the car would act as a Faraday Cage. But not with the vette....... My head would be the highest conducting point if a strike were to hit the vette directly.....

Wonder if there are actually any records of a Corvette being hit by lightning...??

Two years ago....

Carrie and I were home when the house took a strike. It instantly melted and blew out a burner on the stove sending molten metal all across the kitchen (the stove was on at the time and Carrie was standing next to it, I was also in the kitchen). The metal burned into the ceramic tile on the floor. Lost the TV, the microwave, both GFI circuits in the kitchen, the computer, the garage door opener and a number of other things as well. No injuries just great fun:ack2: :ack2:

That she wasn't hit and injured is a blessing in itself:thumbsup:

Rich, I have surge protectors on our stuff as well. I think the damage in on the outside at the Brighthouse connection. The computers "work" as does the tv, but the internet and cable are out.

as far as the vette goes, I believe the frame and HALO on a coupe willl do much the same thing as the metal body on the car.

Don't really want to test the theory though. I'll just suffice to stay blissfully stupid:lmao:

Several years ago we lived in an older, frame house in Panacea, Florida. A thunderstorm blew into the area and it was raining hard when I stepped out onto the covered porch. Just as I closed the door behind me, lightning struck the eve of the house about 15-20 feet from me. I hit the floor, don't know if it knocked me down, or I just reacted. It blackened the eve it hit, melted all the fuses in the electric panel for that side of the house, the TV looked like someone went crazy with a soldering iron on the inside, burnt the cable line, and exiting the house, it blew the water line up where the metal pipe met the PCV. I don't go outside in a thunderstorm any more!

we used to have to direct traffic in these things. The idiots at the Sheriff's office thought it more important to appease the masses (God forbid someone should have to wait in line at a light at 5pm) than worry about the safety of thier deputies. It's an inherrently risky business, but why push your luck.

We had a couple of guys hit with the peripherals as you have mentined and it wasn't pleasant:(

Now, back to Bright house:reddevil: Well I just had one of the semi english speaking repair people come out and tell me it's in the "main line" and that they (Brighthouse) were working to clear it up. when i asked how they could not know there was a problem on the line and with other complaints I[m sure. he began to tpa dance around the issue....

Then he tells me that "actually" they;re upgrading to make service "better"...go figure. tells me it should be repaired in 102 days....Fed up new!!!!! tossed him out of my yard and thanked him for his time. Told him i wasn't happy with BH but wasn't mad at him, he didn't build it. But please leave...NOW....AAAaaaarrrrgghhhh!!!!!!!!
