looked at a 06 today

I was driving my 04 Z51 today and noticed a blue 06 A6 at a dealer, so i stopped in for a fast peek.

It had 4000 miles, never really got into details, it was not a Z51 , could have been a f55 or base ride. The car was sure nice looking, but the dealer was asking $45,000, it also had the colored top!

Think that car will be sitting a while at that price.

Yeah, I'm getting quotes on '07 base C6s for $41K to $42K. I've seen 05's and 06's having asking prices more than the '07s. What gives with that?

Yeah, looks like the base 1LT. Except for the funky blue interior panel around the radio that someone put in there. New '07 can be had for less than what they are asking for that '06. :shrug01:

You would think car salesmen would do simply market research before putting on prices so they know what is feasible or not. Just taking a look in Ebay for all of the completed auctions for 2005-2006 Corvettes would certainly give them a feel for what are realistic selling prices: http://motors.search-completed.ebay...sacat=-100&sadis=500&sofindtype=22&sofocus=pf

The landscape there is littered with cars that did not sell because the bidders wouldn't meet the unrealistic reserve price. So if someone is going to try selling a car, do the research to see what prices got buyers.

I started out thinking about getting a used C6 for my wife, but after seeing the prices, then comparing a new '07 (which comes with the 5 year 100K drivetrain warranty), it didn't make sense to even consider a used one.

In Sept. I got $7200 off MSRP using GMID on a loaded '07 vert. At the time that was the best deal around. Now I see deals offering $7500-8000 off even without GMS pricing. The bad news is you have to go out of state to get it....FL dealers continue to amaze me. Last time I checked a certain Clearwater dealer had 15 07's on the lot and was only offering $1000 off.:banghead:

Oh yeah. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I am going to be getting a C6 from up north somewhere. Wish I could support a Florida dealer with my business, but facts are facts. Even with the surcharge of plane tickets or shipping the car down here, the prices aren't even close in comparison. Heck I have one dealer offering me $1K UNDER invoice if I can wait until the end of January for delivery!

Yeah, Florida dealers must think they're selling real estate or something?

I'll go where I get the best deal...period! you want my business, act like it;)

I think some of it may have to do with the "snow belt". Corvettes probably aren't real big sellers this time of year up north when many people won't be considering driving them until Spring arrives. So I guess they need to make the special effort in order to move them. Florida dealers don't have that problem to deal with, I guess. But I think they are ignoring how much influence the internet has these days in the market.

Heck, what's a plane ticket cost these days? Connie and I can BOTH fly up to Detroit for around $550 and drive back with the new car. So that would be maybe 4 tankfulls of gasoline, max, for another $160 or so. Of just have the car trucked on down for under a grand.

Yeah, I would do that to save several THOUSANDS of dollars!

Carmax had a 06 same car with 5000 miles for $41,000. I really want a C6 but won't ever pay over $38000 for any car! For now i am very happy with my 04 z51, and in time C6's will be under $38,000.

I was working a deal locally on an '05 with 21K miles on it for $35K. Asking price was $39K It had scratches on just about every body panel (Lemans Blue paint, so it was REALLY noticeable), left front spoiler was missing, front splash panel in front of left tire broken, front fascia Corvette emblem was missing part of the decal, and they had a blasted dealer decal on the rear fascia. They didn't want to do much of anything about those listed deficiencies, and when they told me they were replacing the front tires (no reason given) and that the battery was dead and needed to be replaced, I offered them $33K, take it or leave it. The left it, which was fine with me, because that car had too much baggage associated with it. No telling what else was wrong that escaped my notice....

On Ebay I saw another '05 for $36K or so down in Miami, but it was pretty much ragged out. Only had 6K miles or so, but ALL of the front spoilers were missing, and DEEP scratches on the front were plainly evident.

So yeah, there is some garbage out there being offered. That's one reason I am leaning towards a new one. No disrespect towards ALL used car salesmen, but some of them are genuinely earning the bad rep that profession has gotten.

I bought my '04 in Georgia and I'll go out of state again when I get a new one if need be. I have no problem looking outside Fla if folks here won't deal

C6Z06.............YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!

One of these days when the price gets right on a low mileage Z

Man, if they made the Z06 in an automatic transmission I'd be all over it. But this one is for the wife, and she doesn't DO stick shifts. Well she CAN, if she has to, but only as a last resort. Yeah, I would LOVE to get a C6 Z06, but can't see that in the cards any time soon. Besides, I think my '02 Z would give a new one a real run for its money anyway. :hehehe:

The wife and I were talking about once for maybe late 07 early 08?

Still the only issue I have is the non-removeable roof panel:(

I know, they remove themselves with time:rofl1: but I like the ability to look up and see outside:thumbsup:
