Never been to this event but planning to this year. IT WAS 3 DEGREES HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS THIS MORNING!! Anyway my wife and I are taking our 9 uear old Granddaughter to Universal and was planning on going to watch some of the NCRS judging Friday and Saturday. If we are staying on the Universal grounds at one of their hotels how convienient/inconvienient is it to get to Old Town? Any suggestions on what we should know, do, see while there is appreciated. We're heading to Clearwater Beach Sunday-Tuesday then Orlando Wednesday-Sunday. I'm restoring a 67 SB and wanted to see some of the cars judged and hopefully meet some of the guys from the Corvette Forums I've been chatting with the last couple years. Thanks for any input or help. Take care and enjoy the sunshine. :dancer01:

PS. I should mention last time we were in Orlando and Disney was 1984 when we took our 2 boys. I think it has probably changed just a little.

Hey Shooter, If you're going to be in Clearwater till you go to Orlando then is it safe to say you'll be traveling I-4 to Orlando? The reason I ask is that Kissimmee is on 192 just south of Orlando (and Just north of Polk County) so from either direction you'd simply exit I-4 onto 192 east. Then go maybe a half mile and Old Town is on the south side of the road. Turn directly into Old Town and they'll direct you to parking all around the place. Last year the NCRS vettes were on the south end of Old Town and the whole east side too.

Old Town has a Ferris Wheel out front and very tall sling shot type ride right next door so spotting the place is simple as well.

The place has several neat shops and a few places to grab a bite and a beer should that be what you want.

Hope this helps. The NCRS show is well worth going to see:thumbsup:
I will be there on Friday to see the vettes myself.

If you are going to be at Clearwater Beach on Sunday, depending on the time you plan on arriving, there is a car show in Clearwater at the Harborview Center. Our club plans on have 40 of our vette's there. It runs from 10-3 on Sunday the 13.
The show location is two block north of the road that puts you on the bridge to the beach. If you turn right when you get to the county court house, go two blocks to Cleveland (second traffic light), turn left then straight to the water. You will see all of the cars there.
Stop by I grew up in Chicago.

Hey Ken,

Joyce and I will be in Old Town Friday and Saturday. We are coming up from Ft. Myers and hopefully will get there around lunch time on Friday. We have friends (Chuck Gongloff - he posts here occasionally) who will be judging at Old Town and we are coming in to see them. Plus we have another set of friends from Anna Maria Island that are having their '67 (I put his convertible top on a few years ago) judged at the show. Don't know what our schedule will be just yet but if we have a chance sometime Friday maybe we can hook up for a beer and talk C3 big block stuff.

Ken,
I'm not sure what route we will be taking from Clearwater to Orlando yet, I haven't looked that far ahead yet. We are planning on being at Universal Wed and Thur so we will head down to old town from the Universal area. We're still checking out the hotels, whether to stay on Universal grounds or offthe grounds. Any suggestions?? Planning on being at old town late Friday and all day Saturday. Wouldn't mind even staying close to Old Town. Anyway hope to hook up with some of you for that brat and beer!!

TR6speed,
Darn, as of now we are planning on leaving Carbondale (Southern Illinois) about 9-10 Sunday morning. Probably stop Sunday night somewhere in Georgia and arrive in Clearwater Monday afternoon. If we get away earlier we'll definitely check out the car show. Thanks for the information.

PS What part of Chicago you from?

Evening Shooter,

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions in reference to lodging. I have little experience with hotels in that area. Their are so many and so many are nice places. As you are probably already aware they can get pricey around Orlando. I have been advised by a friend who works for Osceola SO that hotels west of I-4 in the Kissimmee area are better (as in more secure) then those east of I-4.

I will be up on Friday and it looks like Rich427 will be there too, it would be awesome if we could all get together. You have my cell number, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Ken

Hey Ken,

As soon as I nail down our schedule for Friday, I drop you a line so we can figure out how to get together. BTW, we are not bringing the '69 but will probably bring the '01 vert. It is much more comfortable for trips over a couple hours.

Rich

I look forward to this show I had my 88 judged there last year and it was a lot of fun and good comradre. Also Sunday there is a local corvette show there. I do not know what time that starts?

Got Rooms!!

We got our rooms today for Orlando and Old Town. We ended up staying on the grounds at Universal check in Tuesday, check out Saturday morning. Moving down the road to Comfort Suites, the host hotel for NCRS. They had a room for Saturday only so we took it. Now checking about Clearwater Beach for Monday before we get to Orlando.

Santa brought me a GPS (Garmin nuvi 350). Seems like a pretty nice one. Can't wait to point it towards Florida and take off!! :dancer01::dancer01:

Hey Shooter!

Santa dropped off the same Garmin to me as well. I have been using it and, for the most part, it is damn accurate. The only problem that I have had so far is that the power cable that plugs into the cig lighter jumps out if I hit a bump or for other unknown reasons. Have not figured this one out yet, but let me know if you too have the same issue. The GPS is great though.

Rich,

Today was the first time we really got a chance to use it for very long. I'm still getting use to it. We punched in Clearwater Beach and took off. We ended up stopping in south Georgia for the night but along the way used the GPS for gas and checking for mileage to towns along the way. Our 9 year old Granddaughter loved searching around on it. You know how kids are around electronics. I wish it could pull up the cheapest gas along with finding them.

Take care,
Dave

I'm heading for the show Thursday morning. I am taking my 88 to put in the corral! I need to sell it before I buy something else. Wish me luck!

Good luck, I'm not getting there until Saturday for the 67 judging. I wish I could sneak away tomorrow to check ou the swap meet before it gets picked over. Oh well, you don't always get what you want.
