Hi all,

Just joined and glad I found a site just for Florida peeps. I have a 1987 Convertible White. I will try to get some pic's up soon. I just got it from my father in law. 44000 miles, never been in the rain. Has only been driven 1800 mile in the last 10 yr's. I am trying to work the bugs out of it. I live in Niceville and need to know were to take it for some service if anyone in my area knows a good dependable mechanic. Anyway I have a 1000 questions to ask, but I will settle in a bit first......lol

Niceville is near Panama City someone asked....and the place to go to fix the Corvette is Xtreme Motor Sports:

http://www.motorsportsxtreme.com/

They are in BlountsTown and are the best....Call them.

:welcome: Welcome also from TampaBay Vettes :welcome:

:hehehe: Jim :hehehe:

:welcome: Glad you found us!

As for someone fairly local to go to for help, yeah I agree with Jim. Give XtremeMotorSports in Blountstown a call. Chris should be able to help you out.

Make yourself comfortable and get to know all your new friends here.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Like I said before I will get some pics up when I have a chance to get the car cleaned up. is near ft walton beach, Destin area. Destin is a little ways away something like 2-3 hours away. I will look them up though. Well heres what has been going on with it since I received it. It hadn't been driven in about 3 yr's. My father in law trailered it down here from Indiana. It had been in his poll barn on blocks and covered. Once it got here it fired right off. (with gas that had been sitting in it for god knows how long) Looked great interior very clean top is in great shape no scratches in the paint. After getting the title and plates on it I filled it up with Vpower shell gas to help clean it out and stabilize the old gas. I decided it needed to be driven for awhile to work the bugs out that I figured were waiting to escape. It didn't take long. The 1st day she ran like a champ. I got on it a little to blow the cob webs out and it was a nice ride. Then the next day when I went to start it, it didn't want to idol it would start and run fine as long as I keep my foot on the gas. It ran fine on the road then it would stall on deceleration. Not every time just hard deceleration. It did this for the next couple of days some days worse the others some not at all. I figure it is the old gas and read where I should run about 3 tanks of the good gas to clean it out well.(I have only been able to use 1/4 of a tank so far....much better gas mileage the I thought it would) Then the power antenna got stuck in the up position with the antenna motor running. I stopped the motor and have a up antenna now...lol then a few days later I started smelling antifreeze.(I was playing with the heater and defrost) the windshield fogged up and I knew that meant heater core. The AC doesn't work I knew that going in. I think it just needs recharge though. So now she sets waiting for me to get the heater core changed before I can continue peeling my onion....lol I don't mind the bugs so much. For what I gave for it I can afford to put a little $ in to her. This is why I was asking about a good mechanic in my area. Someone I can run to when more critters crawl out..lol Anyway Thanks again and I look forward to chatting with you all!

Great looking car can't wait to see pics when you get her all cleaned up.The heater core is going to be a big ticket item for you right away, and it is going to be real important to find a mechanic that has done this job on a C4. Unfortunetly every C4 owner dreds the day the heater core goes out the concensus is General motors built the car around the heater core. Being in Fla you won't have much use for the heater core so you can by-pass it if you don't feel like spending a $1000. or so to get this taken care of right away, again I need to stress that only a good C4 mechanic should do this job or you will end up with dash problems as long as you own it. Too late now but you probably should have drained that old gas out before running the engine it sounds like you clogged the injectors and just running it more, may or may not help but at this point you have nothing to lose, there's a product called seafoam you can get at the auto parts store and try adding to the fuel it may help if the injectors are clogged, follow the directions on the can. I would get the oil changed before you run it too much more, and the coolant depending on what you decide to do about the heater core. Even though the mileage is low on your car there is going to be a bunch of things that will need attention, I don't know if your mechanically inclined or not but you might want to be or you can go broke quick paying someone to work on this car (not trying to discourage you) ;) They are great cars but sitting around as much as yours has, really wreaks havoc on them 20 year old gaskets and seals. Keep looking for a dependable (honest) mechanic close to your home, you need someone that will give you a fair shot and tell you what you need to do to get your car running without breaking the bank. Good luck hope I didn't bore you too much, but if someone would have told me this stuff up front I would have saved a lot of $$$. :welcome:

Thanks for advice. I forgot to mention I had the oil change 1st before driving it. I have ordered a service manual.....that being said I am no mechanic though. :banghead:.....Ya I don"t know what to do about the heater core. You say I can by pass it with summer on the way this will probably be ok until I can find someone to fix it. I also need the AC looked at. It hasn"t worked in years I guess. Do the guys at XtremeMotorSports do heater cores or do they do mods only?

I don't know the guys at XtremeMotorSports so can't help you there, as far as the heater by-pass mine has been dis-connected for 2 years and haven't ever needed it..but it's not a daily driver. Now the A/C is a different story that's what I would spend my $$$ on. Glad to see your getting a FSM it will help a lot.
