:banghead:Have an 85 corvette that has been sitting for several months since it ran last. We changed the fuel filter for routine maintainence and filter was dry. Turned ignition on and didnt hear the fuel pump and no fuel from where the filter is. What should I do ? Thinking possibly I should unplug the fuel pump and test it but I have no diagram for the wires to know which one is which. I obviously want to test it before I just go buy a new one. Any suggestions or anyone with a wire diagram ??? I appreciate your help a great deal on this pain in my side at the moment !!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

86?

I didn't want you to think no one reads these things. I can't help as I know nothing about the fuel pump other then mine (1986) is in the gas tank. I do not "hear" it when I turn on the ignition. It quit on me once and other than run for a minute and shut off, that was all the indication I had that it wasn't working. I know that is no help but at least you got a response?

Just saw this.

Junk, Tracy, Greg or Brad should be on soon and be able to give you some insight.

Sit tight:thumbsup:

I'm betting that the fuel pump is bad from setting!Very common on a older vehicle!:thumbsup:
You should hear the pump run for a short time and shut off as soon as you turn on the key to pressurize the system!!(34-39 lb 85-91):thumbsup:
If not there is a problem!
1. Fusible link blown down by battery!(Rarely):thumbsup:
2. Fuel pump relay on cowl by wiper motor left side!(More often, and usually caused by failing pump drawing too much currant!):thumbsup:
3. Faulty Pump!! (Most Often!):thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

My guess it has varnish in it and it's stuck!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ok, thanks for the info. the fuel pump makes no noise when key turns on, even with the filter removed (fuel line open). There is a wire connecter at the pump that has 3 wires in it, should one be hot when switch is on and if so with one. There are 3 wires coming from the car to the connecter,a black, red, and a green wire. Coming out of the connecter to the fuel pump is a black, pinkish,and a light brown with a white stripe. Thank you for all the assistance in advance
