R H mirror

I realize that the R H mirror in 72 was a dealer installed option but can anyone tell me was their a reinforcing plate placed inside the door to solidify things?

The repro one I installed came with the well nuts, the external base plate the gasket and the mirror but I don't like the stress it's putting on the door or the paint. I'm seeing very small cracks in the paint at the base of the mirror itself. :shrug01:

Any of my early C3 buds out there can tell me.

No red spots lately,But it's been too hot to turn on the buffer.:ack2: :lmao: :lmao:

There is no backing plate utilized. Look at the various catalogs and you will see that the the screws are held in by "adapters" larger in diameter.Hope this helps.:dancer01:

:banghead: The other day I removed the R H mirror to see if the base plate and well nuts may have loosened up a bit. They had the smallest bit.:shrug01: As I tried to re-install the mirror I had a fit aligning the set screw.:ack2: :ack2: I had the same problem when I originally installed it so I changed the base plate for another repro base plate and it fit like a glove. :dancer01: It is also (so far) much more firm with no vibration. Seems to have corrected the problem (I think), I'll know in time.

I'm beginning to believe that the other base plate was a poorer reproduction then the original and allowed the "wiggle".

Thanks so much for your response.

Ken:thankyou2:
