R12 freon recharge

I live in S Tampa, does any one know of a shop that does the r12 recharge? I have no interest in converting the car to the new stuff r134 or whatever it's called. I can get the freon cans on my own, I really don't want to mess around with this stuff.

Good luck finding it. I tried the same with my 85 300zx turbo and it was cheaper/easier to convert to r-134 than track down r-12.

Just curious, you say you can get the freon cans on your own, where are you getting it from and how much does it cost? I was under the impression that it could not be had.
 
You need the system evacuated & there is no real reason why not to convert...cheap & easy. We can do it if you need....have complete AC computerized unit so it's done right.:thumbsup:

If you look on ebay they have a good amount, they all say you need to be certified, they will ship to you. I know some one in NY that has a shop and bought tons of freon before it was illegal. I was going to get it from him.
 
r12 was put of production i believe in the early 90's due to its deconstructive properties to the ozone layer. 134a replaced it. it is not nearly a good of a coolant but is more eco friendly. my father runs a commercial hvac shop and he sometimes has difficulties getting his hands on it. if you can find it great. keep in mind though as you add freon you must also, at times, add some oil to keep the compressor lubricated. as you loose freon you are also loosing oil. for those with r12 beware when getting your car worked on. shops have been caught evacuating the system (taking the r12) and replacing it with
134a. the conversion is simply a matter of evacing the system and refilling with 134a and 134a oil. the compressor will run either (not at the same time)
