Rain today

We just had a strong, but rather short, storm front blow through that dropped 0.75" of rain so far. Looks like we might get a bit more before it is all said and done.

We had a tornado watch in effect too.

Looks like the front may get stuck over us so maybe 3".

We had more rain come in along with a LOT of lightning. Overall got 1.16" of rain for the day.

I'm showing 3.75" of rain here for April.

13.16" of rain for 2020 so far.

The forecast is looking kind of dry through the next week or so, with just modest chances of rain.

Had a couple of yellow flies bite me yesterday, so things might be going to be getting dicey (painful) about doing any work outside.

I also noticed yellow flies week before last. They like hot weather and seem more active early in the AM or late in the PM.

Actually, they like the taste of human blood whenever they can get it.

Got to put new batteries in the bug zappers (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Black-Flag-Portable-Handheld-Bug-Zapper-Racket-Black-ZR-7936-L/302273000). These proved to be pretty handy last year knocking the hell out of the yellow flies. Pretty darn satisfying ZAP when they hit that electrified grid! :hehehe:

Actually put some "fun" into the yellow fly season.

I'm watching a storm front creeping up on us now, hoping it won't just fall apart when it gets here. Then reform up once it gets past us. That happens pretty frequently this time of year.

Well, yeah, we only got the short end of the rain stick. 0.18" worth. Looks like there might be another brief shower or too yet to come, but I'm not holding my breath hoping it will be enough to not have to resume cranking up the irrigation for the fruit trees.

Radar is showing rain all around us, but best we have gotten so far is maybe a cup full of rain. Seems to happen a lot like this around here this time of year. Folks told me this used to be a farming area. Now I understand why it isn't any longer. We just don't get rain at the best time of year for crops.

Yeah, the weather pattern has changed here over the years. Back in the late 60's, early 70's we got a half inch to an inch of rain everyday between noon to 3, 4 o'clock. Winters were cold back then too. By the time the North Florida Fair arrived near Halloween you could count on a frost.

Within 30 years it will just be 90's year round.

No rain at all this month so far.

Heck, in 30 years, nothing taking place on this earth will matter to me. I'll be dead and gone by then.

Looks like some rain heading our way from the northwest, but I'm not holding my breath. We can hear thunder far off. I've seen too many situations like this when a storm front will separate and just go around us and then reform on the other side.

Looks like you should have got plenty.

Yeah man! Got 3.03 inches today. I was really surprised at that. At first we got just 0.13" and I thought that that was going to be that. So everything got watered pretty well today. Looks like we've got modest chances of more rain over the next week or so.
