Rain today

No rain up here this week although we got a few sprinkles in Nashville Wednesday night before we headed south to Orlando. But it rained all morning from Ocala down to Orlando and Lakeland.

Not really a weather issue but the number of crashes on I-75 Thursday was staggering. An overturned Semi at the 377 MM northbound in the morning and then we encountered three more crashes on the way home in the afternoon, including a second overturned Semi! The crazy part was 3 out of the 4 crashes occurred on dry pavement!

If you could see how the people in these 4 wheelers (cars) drive! We run 70-75 mph in our truck but we are constantly passed by cars going 90-110 mph and faster and watch them weave in and out of traffic causing near misses. I really can't believe we haven't seen or been involved in more crashes. We watched one car hit a retaining wall near Atlanta and the driver kept driving until the front wheel literally fell off! Apparently no one is taught how to drive anymore and common courtesy has been replaced by stupidity and road rage.

We would like to continue doing this for another 5 years to get set up for retirement as this route we run is a truck driver's dream, but at this point we're really just hoping to survive out here. People just have no regard for human life anymore. :shrug01:
 
I think a certain class of people have come under the impression that driving dangerously and erratically is a mark of being "cool". :rolleyes:
 
Raining here too. 0.38" so far with what looks like LOTS more on the way.

I forgot to do the monthly and yearly totals on 12/31. I think this is accurate:

Total rain for December, 2023 = 18.44 inches

Total rain for the year 2023 = 76.91 inches

Sorry, but after continual sharp blows to my mind the past year and a half, it just ain't working like it should any longer.
 
We ended up with an inch and a quarter. No heavy thunderstorms, unless I slept through them. And that's entirely possible.
 
We wound up getting 2.83" of rain overnight last night. Some thunder and lightning as well. Sure has been rather soggy around here lately.
 
I won't know how much rain we got but my driveway has water standing that I can see on the security cameras. Power was out for about 10 hours but it's back on now. My yard man checked the house out and other than the wind blowing my garbage can out from under the patio, it's all good.

The wind was rocking the truck last night while we slept at the truck stop near Nashville, Tennessee and gust were reportedly around 55 mph. We drove up to Kentucky today and had some heavy rain and VERY gusty winds. We are parked now and once again getting rocked a bit, expecting snow later this evening and a low of 31.
 
We got 0.86 inches of rain from that storm. Sure sounded like a lot more when it was beating down on the roof, though.

No damage here, just some blown off dead fronds from the palm trees. And it woke me up with some tornado warnings when I didn't want to wake up. :mad:

They were calling for rain here, and I guess they were right. If you can call 0.01" as being rain.
 
A quarter inch here yesterday. Windy and cold today. Looks like winter is settling in for a bit. Reminds me of winters back when I was a teenager.
 
Supposed to get mid 20s Tuesday and Wednesday nights, then more of the same over the weekend.

If the rest of my citrus get killed off I guess I will just be yanking them out of the ground too and be done with growing citrus.
 
We lost our Satsuma last year when it dropped to 17 degrees. The leaves and the tree turned black and never recovered. The Lemon tree survived. The deer are rubbing their antlers on the two Cherry trees we planted last spring. We'll see how that turns out.
 
I thought the satsumas was supposed to be among the hardiest of the tangerines. Sure proved that wrong in 2022. Surprisingly the navel orange and the cara cara orange did very well in the cold. Also any Meyer lemons or Changsha tangerines that grew from seed acted like they didn't even get a chill.

Grafting on cold hardy root stock is supposed to help citrus survive cold spells. What I saw that year was the complete opposite.
